Copy from MyDVD to VideoWave

StuD

Question

How do I copy seequences, clips, or movies from MyDVD Edit Movie program over into VideoWave?

I started on a new DVD burning project, and just to see how it would work, I took a draft of my VideoWave production and sent it to MyDVD. I then started editing it within MyDVD and have the movie looking like I want. However I want to get it back into VideoWave since I want to use some of the scene collections and edits there.

When I try to Copy out of the MyDVD edit movie section, it won't let me paste into VideoWave. I can't drag and drop either.

I had naievely assumed that the edits to my movie were actually edits to my VideoWave production, since the VideoWave editor is almost identical to the MyDVD movie editor.

Note, this is all with a movie I have created, and has nothing to do with pulling information off of an existing DVD, copyrighted or not. Searches of the FAQ often come up with a note about not being able to copy copy protected content off of DVD's

Any pointers would be much appreciated...

Unfortunately you cannot get the edited video from the myDVD Videowave to the main Videowave program and do more editing there. This problem has come up many times before in most EMC versions. At least in inEMC 7/7.5 there was a work-around to to use the edited video from DVD Builder in Videowave. But since EMC 8 this no longer is possible as far as I know.

Roxio should make it clearer that Videowave is to be used for editing and myDVD is for creating menus and burning. Perhaps they should remove the editor completely from myDVD.

You can actually do some of the editing the same way as in VideoWave. If you click on your movie, in the Preview screen, in MyDVD to highlight it, you can then right click on it, and select Edit Movie. A VideoWave type screen will pop up, and you can make your changes there, using the same transitions, etc. that you use in VideoWave. When you are done, click the Back to Menu button at the top of the screen.

That is exactly the problem. I have now edited my video in MyDVD, put in quite a bit of time fine tuning the scenes and transitions. And I need to get these back into VideoWave.

This really bites, as I have to re-create hours worth of editing now...

The video editor in MyDVD should give a big warning that you can't get the changes back into VideoWave.

Anybody else know of any workarounds in EMC 10?

Anyway, thank you kindly for the replies thus far...

Why do you need to get it back to VideoWave?

I want to take sequences and re-use them in other projects and movies, but I want to be able to edit and adjust them as well. Exporting as a complete movie (Output As) removes a lot of the meta data useful in editing.

For more movies inside of MyDVD, there isn't a 'New Movie' option, I have to add movies apparently. It looks like I might be able to do this, and just manage all of it within MyDVD rather than VideoWave, but it seems much more cumbersome.

Any or other compatibility issues between VideoWave and MyDVD? I'm not an expert in either, is there any functionality I don't get when using the video editing within MyDVD? Can I just use that?

;)

VideoWave is your editor! Do all of your editing in that!!!

MyDVD is only there to build your user interface for your burned DVD.

That is the way that most video software works.

That's why I have a problem, because I did video editing in MyDVD assuming I could move it back to VideoWave. Now I find that I can't do that, so I am wondering if there are any reasons why I should not use MyDVD, at least for this particular project...

Again, any pointers on how to move from MyDVD back to VideoWave? It almost seems like an XSLT transform could do the trick if the schema was understood. Has anyone played with directly modifying the XML in the project files?

Well, at least you now know to use VideoWave next time. That is part of the learning curve, with this software.
