What is the best practice to keep VideoWave and MyDVD in sync

StuD

Question

I recently discovered a problem where I was unable to copy movie scenes from MyDVD back into VideoWave productions. http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=31615

I now understand that this isn't supported in EMC, which raises the question; What is the best way to keep your VideoWave productions in sync with MyDVD?

When I load a production into MyDVD, I have to do some steps such as adding chapters, sub menus, and selecting preview tiles, etc... If I then want to adjust my movie back in VideoWave, how can I keep the changes in sync with the MyDVD information?

It appears that once I load something into MyDVD, I must almost start over if I want to make any changes back in VideoWave.

Is there a way to easily keep these in sync? If not, what is the best practice that others are using to do so...

Inquiring newbies want to know...

Cheers!

As far as I know, once you bring in a Videowave production to MyDVD, any subsequent changes done in Videowave is no longer "linked" to the one you "imported" to MyDVD. So plan ahead and make all your edits in Videowave before going to MyDVD.

The other alternative is to delele the movie in MyDVD and bring in again the updated Videowave production. You may need to do some tweaking again in MyDVD (such as changing thumbnail, etc, of the newly added movie).

If I'm not mistaken, I believe that you were told that you couldn't. Is there something else you wanted to ask? I believe you were told to do all your editing in Video Wave and then move that edited file to MyDVD. Is there a problem with that?

Why do you have to start over. Just open the saved Video Wave project file and do your editing there. Look at the tips and trick area of V10 for some information on chapters.

Go out and buy a copy of EMC 7 (won't work in Vista, no IE 7, no WMP 11). In that early version, you could go from DVD Builder to Video Wave and back. I don't remember the trick but I know you could do it.

I was told that I could not go from MyDVD back to VideoWave, but not how to keep them in sync.

What I am looking for is what are the recommended best practices for keeping them in sync? What the previous message just said was that there is no way to link them such that changes in VideoWave are reflected in MyDVD. This was new information.

Based on this, it sounds like it might be a good best practice to:

When using MyDVD, work on nailing down the structure and organization of the DVD first if that is likely to drive any further updates or changes in the VideoWave production. Defer setting menu text, and thumbnail images until the you are confident about the production, since if you need to change the production in VideoWave you will need to re-import it, and will have to re-build your chapters, chapter menus, and thumbnails

This may be obvious to some of you, but it wasn't obvious to me when I posted the question.

Thanks for the pointer to the tips and tricks section... I had to search for "chapters" as the topic of "How to Zap Commercials from Recordings, Reprinted from Roxio digital media report, For EMC 10" was just not quite obvious enough for me...

I'll update that Tip to include ".. and a way to create Chapter markers" in the title. :)

Thanks!
