Toast 8.03 Verification Fails

cchapin

Question

This is driving me crazy. I am on an intel mac 2.66 dual, OSX 10.4.11. I can only burn a data CD once in a while. I had never had a problem. Now I get a verifcation error almost every time. For a while, if I restarted my computer, I could get it to work. Now, doesn't seem to matter.

I am using Imation CDs. Don't think that is the problem as I have used them in the past. After a number of tries today, I finally got it to work by saving it as a disk image first, then burning the data CD. I'm a graphic designer and need to make CDs several times a week. Please help. I have posted before and the only answer I got was to change brands of CDs. Thanks.

What details do you need? In the original question I told you everything I know. My computer, my OS, the brand of CDs etc. What other information can I provide?

Sorry for the confusion. I was asking that question of MikeA who had the post prior to mine. I have yet to encounter a verification error with either my G5 or Intel Mac using 10.4.11 or 10.5.1. Is there any chance that the folder containing the data you're burning could in any way be modified during the burning process. For instance, opening or closing a folder will cause a verification error because the .ds_store file changes.

I realize this likely is of no real help. Sorry.

Same issue here: 10.5.1 running Toast 8 with the most current updates. Burning Video TS files on a Plextor burner, verification ALWATS fails. Absolutely incredible that I'm going to have to delete Toast 8 and reintstall Toast 7

A good way to avoid this problem when burning VIDEO_TS folders is to choose Save as disc image from the File menu and then burn the disc image using the Image File setting in the Copy window.

Also you don't need to delete Toast 8 if you want to install Toast 7. You can have any version of Toast on your Mac at the same time. They also can be used at the same time assuming you have multiple drives so each can be assigned its own drive.

I have a stock Mac Pro 2.66 Dual-core with both a Pioneer DVR-112D (1.24) and DVR-111D (1.29) running OS X 10.5.1 and Toast 8.03. I have tried two kinds of DVD+R media in both drives, "YUDEN0T03" and "RICOHJR01". I have tried burning both "Mac Only" and "DVD-R" types of discs in Toast.

I tried to burn my data over 6 times and in every case the discs failed with a verification error at about the same place (4%... around sector 1/94447). I manually compared the data on several occasions and found that the discs did have errors that prevented them from working properly.

I desperately needed to burn the data so I tried using the Finder's built-in burning tools for the first time in years. Not only did it burn the disc with no issues but I also found that the Finder has improved it's burning capabilities significantly since 10.3.

I am disappointed that Toast seems to be completely useless to me at this time, but am relieved to find that my DVD burners are not broken!

What in the world is going on with Toast?

Well, I'm glad I'm not alone, but I wish someone had some suggestions. Thanks for the response.

Looks like we are all in the same club :( I have tried different media with no luck. Anyone know what to do next when you're down here in Australia and can't just call support?

Same thing over here. Every drive, all different media, both DVD and CD, and the vast majority of the time verification fails.

I'm at the point where I think I need to get someone from Roxio on the phone. This is so unacceptable.

Toast 7 on my old Power PC Mac rarely ever had verification failures.

Anyone have any ideas?

To help troubleshoot this please provide some details. I just burned a Mac & PC data disc to Verbatim DVD+R DL from a disc image file on a G5 iMac running OS 10.4.11 with Toast 8.0.3 using my Firewire Lacie drive without any problem with verification. I also have a MacBook Pro running 10.5.1 so I can use it instead to burn some data discs to see the problem occurs there. But I'd like to know if there is some common thread among those having this problem or if it is totally random.

 This is rediculous. I also cannot burn CD's from my music files with my recently purchashed TOAST8. When dragging my files to the burn area I always get a message that says "only iTunes music is recognized" and then eleminates half of my songs on the playlist. Problem is ALL my music has been downloaded from iTunes. I have tried everything I know to get this TOAST8 to work but to no avail. I am using a new Mac Intel.

Toast does not accept copy-protected iTunes store downloads. Those can only be used in Toast if they are first burned to audio CD by iTunes and then imported back from the CD. That's a requirement Apple enforces.
