Microsoft Patches Mess Up Media Player

MICROSOFT has admitted that updates it made to its Media Player software ave made matters worse for users of the entertainment gear.

In recent months, the Vole issued a three updates for the media player software, including a security patch. Now it admits that the patches could cause the whole thing to go belly up.

 

According to a Volish support page, the updates can cause issues when trying to seek, fast rewind or fast forward in Windows Media Player 10. Everything might freeze and the playback slider might jump back to the beginning of the file for no apparent reason.

 

Two other updates that could cause media player trouble were released last year including "Update Rollup 2" for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 and a fix intended to enable DirectX Video Acceleration of Windows Media Video content. Both of them make the player do weird things, but not quite so bad, apparently.
