Adding m4a files to Slideshow

Jackson1111

Question

I have searched all over the forum, but I could not find a specific response to this question. I am asking for your assistance.

I purchased the MyDVD9 Studio software because it said that it would input m4a files. These are not copy protected files (m4p); these are audio files uploaded to iTunes from my CD collection.

I am attempting to create very simple Slideshows. When I attempt to add background audio, the "Add Audio" box shows "Files of Type:" as "Audio files (*.wma, *wav, *.mp3, *.ac3,". I receive the message in the box that "There are no media files in this folder that match the filter settings. To change the filter settings, click the Filter for Media Types button." I have looked all over for the "Filter for Media Types" button; there is no reference to this button in help or anywhere that I could see. Thus, I can't change the Files of Type.

This is very frustrating! I don't want to spend time converting my files over to a compatible format; plus I don't want to lose audio quality by converting.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance for your help.

You can get the 9.1 update here: Make sure that you dowload the correct patch for your version of the software.

Dear GrandpaBruce,

I own a standalone version of MyDVD 9 Studio. I do not own Easy Media Creator 9. The Roxio software site states "You must have a valid copy of the full, retail version of Easy Media Creator 9 or Easy Media Creator 9 Deluxe Suite on your system in order to install this update."

It doesn't look like I can use this update with my standalone MyDVD 9.

Am I correct?

Thanks!

As near as I can tell, you are correct. It won't update your software.

maybe MyDVD Studio just doesn't support such file format.

Roxio Technical Support has confirmed that the MyDVD 9 Studio program supports the M4A audio file type. That does not appear to be the issue. The issue has something to do with the install.

Roxio Tech Support asked me to send them information from the dxdiag information.

Thanks!

Try this, click the down arrow to the right of the box that shows the wma, wav, etc files to see if you get another drop down that lists m4a. The full EMC 8 has the ability to add the m4a files and the very basic MyDVD has the ability to use m4a files so yours that should be in between should also.

Try also copying them to a folder; not ITunes, that you make on your computer. Navigate to that folder when you are looking for the m4a files. You should be able to select them.

You should see something like this:

If you don't see something like this, then you may have a bad install. Try turning off your antivirus and do a repair install of the program using Windows>Control Panel> Add or Remove Programs> Repair.

Are you running Vista or XP?

Dear Steve,

Thank you for your response.

There is no other option in the drop down box. The only option showing is "Audio files (*.wma, *wav, *.mp3, *.ac3,". It seems strange that it reads exactly as I typed it; i.e. no ending parentheses and not showing *.m4a, *.aac) like your option box does for Audio files.

I will do a repair install and report back.

I am running Vista Home Premium.

Again, thanks for your help.

Audio Codec missing issue?

Hi, Steve.

I checked the Audio Codec file. I am only showing 2 files in my C:/ProgramFiles/Roxio/AudioCodec/Filters folder:

sonicmpgmux.dll

sonicmuxmpeg.ax

I don't know if this is a function of the standalone MyDVD 9 product vs. the full Easy Media Creator suite.

Thanks!

Jackson

Dear James,

Here is the version that I am running:

Roxio Home

Version: 9.0.166

Build: 901B66M, DVD

The retail box itself says that this product is "COMPATIBLE with Microsoft Windows Vista,..."

When I click the "Help, check for updates" menu, I receive the message that "the Update Service did not find any updates for your application". When I check the website, there are no manual updates for my version of MyDVD. The upgrade to 9.1 only applies to the full Easy Media Creator 9 product.

Thanks!

Jackson

Dear Steve,

I tried to run a repair installation, but I received a failure message.

Since this install was an upgrade from the OEM MyDVD Basic, I decided to completely uninstall through Control Panel both the remnants of the MyDVD Basic and the MyDVD 9 Studio. I then rebooted and tried a fresh install, turning off my Virus Protection (Windows Live OneCare).

Unfortunately, I am still looking at the same, incomplete drop down box.

Any ideas? Also, do you have any idea where to find the mysterious "Filter for Media Types" button?

Thanks!

Jackson

Steve,

I think that you may be onto something with your assessment of a bad install. I had the feeling that there may have been a conflict with the previous MyDVD Basic OEM software that originally came with my computer. Especially since the Basic OEM software did not support M4A input (I think).

I decided to do a clean install by removing all traces of Roxio and Sonic programs on my computer and then reinstalling the MyDVD 9 software. I followed the instructions that were contained in the Roxio Knowledgebase Article ID 000127CR Roxio 000127CR.

Unfortunately, after the reinstall, the identical problem remains, which is...

I am going to try another Repair install. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Steve, I have been trying to work with the Roxio Technical Support Team (both with a help ticket and using Live Chat). They don't seem to understand the issue; they keep saying that the m4a files in iTunes are protected files, regardless whether the music was uploaded from a CD or purchased through the iTunes store. I know that this is NOT correct.

Until I can get to the point of seeing the *.m4a, *.aac) extensions on the Audio files box, I am considering this an install issue.

I finally got some suggestions from them; they suggested that I make sure that I have the current DirectX version installed on my computer. In addition, they suggested that I make sure that my audio driver is up to date (Realtek High Definition Audio). I have updated both of these.

They also asked me what version of Apple Quicktime that I have installed (Version 7.3).

I am in the process of doing yet another clean install per the Knowledgebase 000127CR. I will keep you posted. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions.

Regards,

Jackson

I updated the DirectX files; I updated my audio drivers (Realtek High Definition Audio). I performed another Clean Install per knowledgebase 000127CR. Still coming up with the same issue.

I am getting no help from Roxio Tech Support. Their latest answer to me was...

Thank you for contacting Roxio Technical Support

Here is a list of supported file types for EMC 9.

Audio: Audio CD, MP3, WAV, WMA, Dolby Digital AC-3, AAC, Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, M4A, MP4, Playlists (WPL, ASX, M3U, PLS, XSPF

Thank you for contacting Roxio Technical Support

Any ideas? Thanks!

Did you try downloading and installing an audio codec pack?
