Cannot Burn File ?

pomse

Question

Hi I have a avi file that I want to burn with roxio.

But Roxio can't open the file and Media Player can't also not open the file.

Media player gives me the error 8007000E there is nearly no memory left and it suggest that I close all programs. But other Avi files there is much bigger than this file can media player, play without no problems. I am totally confused.

Is it a codec that I am missing ?

I also use Gspot and it says the codec is installed.

I am running Vista on my computer.

Do you mean that Windows Media Player will not play the file now? If you installed Vista on top of or as a fresh install, it likely could have wiped your codecs so you might want to reinstall them. Exactly what type of avi file is this?

And, there's always a chance that the file is corrupt.

Yes Windows media player will not play the file. I formatted my harddisk before I installed Vista. I have not installed all my codecs because some of the packs did not work on vista :-( Roxio did not work correct when I installe all my codec packs.

But I think I have the right codec. I have checked the file with Gspot

and it says video Codec XviD 1.0.2

Audio codec 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3

But Gspot also tell me the codec is alredy installed.

Apparent 'lack of memory' is often down to a corrupt file (the header info is incorrect).

You could try copying the file again from the source, but what you have on disk is unusable I'm afraid

But I could play the file on XP after I installed Vista I could not play the file anymore ?

If you installed Vista as an 'update' to XP (ie, installed over the old XP installation) you could have corrupted files (not to mention ending up with a badly messed up registry)

It's always far better to install an OS from scratch - on a clean, wiped drive

It still could be a codec problem - you say you have Xvid 1.0.2 - 1.1.3 was released back in June, so you are quite a bit behind

There is also the possibility that the file you have is 'protected' with DRM and WMP11 (built in to Vista) considers you aren't licensed to view it

Are you sure about roxio will still work on vista if I install this xvid ?

Because last I installed big packs of codecs roxio crashed and I need to format my computer before it worked again :-(
