I bought a new HP Camera

Astrid50

Question

Hey folks,

I purchased a new HP camera, and with it followed a CD with photo applications.

One of them, the HP Photosmart Premier, was advertized to do photo slideshows on DVD.

Excelllent! What a neat feat!

But in reality, my purchased software could not do anything except PREPARING a burn to a DVD.

When actual burning should take place, I was asked to contact Sonic and BUY a licence to burn.

I was stressed by a time limit, so I just did that with no complaint.

It costed me some 15 euros, and it finally burned the DVD.

Now, 6 months later, I was in the same position. With the exception that I now HAD that burning ability "inhouse". Guess what happened? Yes. It didnt work.

So I redownloaded this license by using my order number. Still didnt work.

Then I contacted support:

Thank you for contacting the Sonic Solutions Online Store.

We?re sorry, the Sonic Solutions Online Store is unable to assist with

technical issues with the software you have purchased. To reach our

technical support team, please go to the following site:

http://support.sonic.com/

So I went there, and the site was asking me for a application name.

HP Photosmart Premier is not listed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I registered on this forum, and here I am, telling this nasty story of beeing cheated on by all this mess.

Unable to get support. It really sux major.

So, folks. Do not ever buy a camera with software. It will not work, as they need more money frpm you and in the end they will blame ech other when you want support.

I have done some checking around, and what you bought is a plugin burning engine being enabled in your HP program... you can try to contact HP and see what happens.

It might be in your list of programs somewhere - one way to check what you have is Belarc (www.belarc.com - it's a safe program, and I have it on all 3 of my computer - Win98SE, Win2000, WinXP).

However, adding IE7 and/or WinPlayer 11 have broken a LOT of software, so you might see if HP has any fixes for it.

When you bought the license, did you have to download a program? What was it? That is what the Sonic site is asking for.

I only got a pdf document with a link to press.

The application is not listed = HP Photosmart Premier

The burning was disabled and refered to Sonic to request a license to work.

It worked 6 months ago, but now it is impossible to run the burning process no matter how many times I open that pdf and do what it says. Brilliant, ey? =)

Since the last time it worked, did you download, or allow Windowas auto-update to download, Internet Explorer 7 and/or WinPlayer 11?

Lynn

Lynn,

Yes certainly. Every update Windows provides, I use.

IE = 7.5730.11

WMP = 11.0.5721.5230

Do you mean my program pdf license wont work anymore due to that?

If so, perhaps Roxio or Sonic could have a easy-to-find information page regarding all these customers that has to pay a license fee inside other companys software?

Altho I can't speak directly to the program you have, IE7 and WinPlayer 11 are Vista components that cause major changes deep inside the Operating System, and therefore "break" a lot of software. This includes Roxio programs prior to Easy Media Creator 9.1, and Nero programs of similar date, and I've seen reports of it "breaking" spreadsheet programs.

What it comes down to, is either you get Vista compatible programs to work with IE 7 and WinPlayer 11, or you roll back to IE 6 and WinPlayer 10. There are links to microsoft instructions to rollback, here:

http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=23162

Afterward, you would probably need to do a repair install to replace the registry entries that had been "broken" by the updates.
