OEM Basic 9 Issues

Aoibhell

Question

Just got a brand spanking new hp laptop w/ lightscribe. I go to use Roxio's Express Labeler V3, and I get this error:

Access Violation at address xxxxxxx in module 'DWMEMMAN.dll'

I'm not trying to do anything the basic program doesn't already allow, just make a simple cd label. I started to dl the 9.1 patch, but I just read that there are no patches for OEM software here.

Any ideas on whats causing this error??

But dude, you need the LightScribe drivers/software installed, or you aren't going anywhere with any label software. ;)

And, you posted to a 3-1/2 month old thread, and the OP hasn't been back since he posted.

does it matter if it's old or the OP has disappeared? this is the thread that comes up if people google the problem.which is how i got here

and if you read bbedford's post in full, he says the software was installed at purchase. same as me

so thank you bbedford for the workaround! Vista: what a mess

Actually t does matter if it's an old thread =- it's always better to start a new thread as no two people ever have exactly the same problem - different motherboards, RAM, CPUs and even utility software

Always start a new thread and never a 'me too' or it causes nothing but confusion

Well, the orignal poster (OP) hasn't been back since December 2007, and the other poster hasn't been back here since March 2008.

I can't really help you with your problem, but I can tell you that I have the same problem.

I can give you a work around.

First of all, the problem only occurs when you click on the "Label Disc" button in Roxio Creator Basic v9, correct?

The track contents are passed to "Roxio Express Labeler v3", however, any attempt to change the default CD label from "Custom Music CD" results in the error you describe:

Access violation at address 001A1728 in module 'DWMEMMAN.dll'.

Read address 46380006

I too am using Windows Vista Ultimate and this software was preloaded on an HP laptop.

Hey, it SHOULD work, but it does not.

I don't know if it will do any good, but I have logged a ticket with Roxio (I have an account from owning Media Creator on different PC).

Oh, the work around? It sucks, but it does work.

If you create a new project in the Express Labeler, you can edit the disk label, choose a background, etc. but you have to re-enter all of the track information manually, track by track. At least then, you'll be able to burn the CD label with lightscribe. I've made four of them and each time I had to create a new project and manually edit the tracks. Takes a lot of the fun out of using the software.

If I ever hear back from Roxio (or HP) on this problem, I'll post it here.

P.S. This has absolutely nothing to do with lightscribe drivers. This is an application error, plain and simple.

If I had to speculate, I'd say that it is some sort of incompatibility in Vista Ultimate (64-bit edition).

There are no downloads available for OEM versions.

Have you also installed the latest drivers for the Lightscribe burner? I don't think they are part of the Roxio package and you have do get them from the Lightscribe burner site. Maybe somebody else whoe uses a Lightscribe burner can give you more definte information

Yes, you have to have the LightScribe software installed. The OP can get it here:
