m2ts files

David Othen

Question

I have just purchased a Sony HDR-UX1 camcorder which stores the video as m2ts files. I have also purchased Easy Media Creator 10 and am using it with Windows XP SP2.

When I attempt to use one of the m2ts files in Videowave the program attempts to convert the file to MPEG2 but then tells me there is an error in the stream.

What is the best way to edit m2ts files without loss of quality?

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

That depends on final output. It you want to create a standard 'video DVD', no there is not. FOR BEST quality, make sure the Sony Motion Picture Browser is converting to MPEG2 at 8 or 9 Mbps.

If you have a DVD player that also accepts HD WMV or DivX HD, that is an option.

Thank you. I will see if the Sony software allows this option.

m2ts files are AVCHD; I'm not sure that the program supports those files (read the third post in this thread.). Can you use the software that came with the camera to do the conversion to mpg2?

Many thanks

Yes I can convert the m2ts files to mpeg2 files using the Sony software but it is a lot of unnecessary work that includes the need to copy and rename files and the loss of picture quality.

I would not have purchased EMC 10 if I had known that since I already had VW 7 Pro. The Roxio e-mails seemed to imply that it supported HD video but apparently only some types of HD video.

AVCHD (m2ts) are NOT DVD compliant and would have to be converted regardless of which software you use so this isn't 'unnecessary' work if you want to create a video DVD. Unfortunately, software hasn't caught up with AVCHD editing yet. I don't even think Sony's Vegas will do that without first converting it.

EMC10 support HD OUTPUT (like HD WMV and DivX HD) and I don't think that VW7 will even import HD of any kind.
