Repair Feature

Merlot

Question

I have the downloaded version of EMC 10. I've had problems with Cineplayer (jerky video, locks up) and reinstalled the software multiple times - complete reinstall. I wanted to use the Repair feature in add/remove programs but EMC 10 always reinstalls. I can't access the .msi file repair is looking for. How do I uncompress the 750MB file EMC downloaded in? Is it winzipped? Do I also have to buy winzip???

Any help appreciated!

I've tried that. I don't have an Extract To option when I right click. The only functional choice I have is Open and as soon as you click that EMC 10 extracts files (the location cannnot be changed) and goes into install mode. The downloaded file does not have an .exe extension.

Any other ideas? Roxio?

Thanks for your help....

The downloaded files (you should have downloaded 2 files: the program file and the Content file) have the extension "exe". If you don't see the extension then you don't have your computer setup to show the extensions. To view the extensions do the following

1-on the Windows Explorer menu bar click Tools then Folder Options

2-click View

3-scroll down until you see "hide Extensions for known File Types"

4-uncheck the check box

5-click Ok

You should now see the filenames with extensions.

Had similar problem. I started the install until the Language choice appeared. I then went to Document and Settings/User Name\Local Settings\Temp. Look for folder that (this is the one I had) pft118.tmp (Note- Local Settings is hidden folder so you need to go to Tools then Folder Options Click on View and make sure that "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is checked). This pft118.tmp folder is where EMC places the files when it uncompresses them for installation. Copy all files to another folder and then go and quit the Install process. The pft118.tmp file will be deleted when the Install process is cancelled. Once you are out of the install go back and make a folder with the same name as the one that EMC had created (pft118.tmp). Now copy all the files back to that folder. Now when you need the CinePlayer .msi file go to the folder Cineplayer_39 and the .mis file will be in that folder. This worked for me. As suggestion keep a copy of these files and in my case burned them to DVD after I did the same with the Extra Content files. This way if any of the other programs require .msi you will have them all. Hope this helps.

You don't have to do all of that. You can do as Larry said, in Post #5 of this thread.

No you don't need to buy WinZip, they have a free eval version you can download or try WinRar. You need one of them (or a similar compression app) installed. Then you can follow the instructions regarding rightclick, extract .....

Thanks for your help. I changed the settings and was able to see the extensions (duh). I did not have the Extract feature so I downloaded WinZip and was able to get Repair to work... Now instead of having jerky video/studder I get a DMX.exe error...

I'm thinking I should get my 16mm movie projector out... at least I knew why that studdered...

Does anyone have any other ideas? Video drivers up to date. Had a similar problem with EMC 9 too... thought 10 would be better...

Help!!!

<_< sorry to say, you are not the only one experiencing the problem with Cineplayer. If it is not the software itself, there must be some conflict with another program? I have tried everything, fresh reboot, wiped registry, clean reinstall, Cineplayer is still nervous and jerky. Good linear audio with pixelated frames. Codecs maybe?

Downloaded a tryout codec from NVIDIA for Windows Media Player 11 and no problems. Graphics drivers, directx up to date.
