Audio Sync issues after upgrade to 8.0.3

Fred R

Question

I regret having my Toast upgraded to the latest version.

Before it was working just great! Now, it is slower, conversion takes forever and even the EXPORT function has AUDIO SYNC problems!!!! it is so annoying!

I tried the suggestion of clearing all the caches and repairing the DISK permissions on my Mac PRO. Restarted and double checked also to delete all the ROXIO CONVERTED ITEMS, but still the problem is there... AUDIO SYNC PROBLEMS with almost any kind of video file...

.TiVo files, MPG files, DV files... none of them are working fine...

I stopped burning DVD disks and I am just creating the image before burning, but the AUDIO SYNC issues are still there...

Any REAL solution for this issue?

Reinstall and put the previous release??

PLEASE ADVISE...

FRED from Toronto

I followed your instructions, which kind of worked, except for 2 things:

The re-encoded file (from PAL to NTSC) size went from 3.4 to 7.8  ,

but I burned it anyway to see what would happen. The burned DVD (verbatim DVD+R DL) failed verification at 9%. I popped it into the DVD player just to check, and at least it started playing instead of giving me the 'location limitation' error, so I had an NTSC disc, albeit a corrupt one.

Someone else was using the tv the player is attached to, so I played the DVD with DVD Player on my MBP to see how far it would go, and the action froze at 13 min. I tried VLC, same thing.

Thanks for getting me through the sync problem and the PAL/NTSC conversion. I am going to try your conversion instructions again, hopefully with a more positive result.

I created an image file, and again the TS_VIDEO folder was 4.36 GB, but the converted image file is 7.29 GB. Is this normal?

Edit: I found the 'compress to fit' option.

Burned the file to a single sided DVD, and that worked fine.

Thanks again.

I'm having the same problem.

When I play the files on the computer, they are synced. When I burn them to a DVD and play the disc, it starts synced, but the syncing becomes increasingly worse as the DVD plays.

Are your source videos also from TiVo to go?

First, I need to make a correction to my last post, I needed to get some chapters, which VHub doesn't do, so I had actually gotten these files extracted from MacTheRipper. I had been futzing with these files all day, just to get what files I wanted, so I had forgotten about the MTR extraction at the end, once again, I apologize for the misinformation.

I read in another thread that gradually losing sync has something to do with a difference in audio bitrate between PAL and NTSC, so I ran the MTR'd files through Visual Hub with the bit rate set at 48. It solved my sync problem, but whether it was dumb luck or is an actual solution, I don't know.

One question (perhaps a bit foolish to some of you) about PAL to NTSC:

If I have NTSC selected in the Preferences, will Toast automatically create the DVD in NTSC format? This of course, would save me from the extra step(s) of having to convert in Visual Hub.

Thank you for your help. :)

The process to do PAL to NTSC conversion (or the other way around) is that you first need to have Toast extract the MPEG files from the VIDEO_TS folder. Toast extracts either individual titles or individual chapters that you select. Here's how:

1. Choose DVD video as the format in the Toast window.

2. Place the VIDEO_TS folder on the desktop or in the Movies folder.

3. Choose DVD with the top button of the Toast Media Browser. In a few seconds you'll see something appear in the browser window.

4. Use the button below the DVD button to select either the titles or chapter level. Select what you want and drag it to the Video window.

5. Toast extracts the MPEG files and writes them to the Roxio Converted Items folder.

6. Now you can set up the menu the way you want. When you click Save as Disc Image (which I recommend) or click the Burn button Toast will ask if you really want to convert the video from PAL to NTSC. Approve this and all should be fine.
