CinePlayer 3.4 - Unhandled exception error

clchansen

Question

I have used my CinePlayer 3.4 since July of this year without problems. Now when I try to play a DVD an error message comes up that says "An unhandled exception has occurred in a component in your application. Click continue and application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. Object reference not set to an instance of object."

I have reinstalled the program and still get the same error. Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks

Chris

I get the same error. Dell Support just sent me a Philips DVD/CD drive to replace a NEC drive in my XPS200 that had stopped reading DVDs. I swapped in the new Philips drive and suddenly MyDVD Plus could not see the D: drive any longer, although Windows XP has no problem reading/writing to the D: drive. Then CinePlayer started giving me the same "Unhandled exception" error message you describe. I'm trying to research the problem.

I contacted support a second time and got a reply back the next day telling me that the problem was fixed! So, I put a DVD in the drive and the movie started playing. I've rebooted numerous times and every time it has played the DVD without any errors. I don't know what support can do without applying an update to my PC though, but at least it's working now!

Cheers

I, too, receive this error message; I have also reinstalled CinePlayer. The details of the error message follow this message.

The specific version of CinePlayer Surround is ver. 3.400 (build 342B41A).

Anyone got any suggestions?

It would seem to me that Roxio will need to issue a patch for CinePlayer to fix a programming fault. Until then, you might try using Windows Media Player to watch DVDs: it should be able to use the decoder shipped with CinePlayer - it does here.

************** JIT Debugging **************

To enable just in time (JIT) debugging, the config file for this

application or machine (machine.config) must have the

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging

enabled.

For example:

<configuration>

<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the machine

rather than being handled by this dialog.

Thanks

Chris

I am glad that it's not just me that can't play DVDs using CinePlayer! It is really annoying, it suddenly stopped working early December. Never had any problems with it up until that point. Can't even use Windows Media Player to play DVDs with the CinePlayer Decoder. I contacted Roxio Support before Christmas and got a reply last night telling me to alter my system date to "before November 30" to fix it. Laughably, it worked! However, it stops working when the system date is changed back. I'm using it as a short term solution and am waiting to hear back from Support again.

Regards

Jonathan

I've been getting a message that says Cineplayer Decoder Pack cannot find file path. It locks up the movie playing and it won't allow you to go forward. I created a ticket 2 weeks ago with no response. You can get someone on the phone to sell you this crap but you can't get help!

I also have this error, and I have sent a web ticket to Roxio support. If anyone has a solution, please help!

This is terribly frustrating, as I have been unable to play DVDs on my computer for over a month. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program multiple times, but to no avail. I also uninstalled and reinstalled Microsoft .NET Framework. In an act of desperation, I even reinstalled the operating system on my computer. I have no idea what to do next, and I do not want to purchase entirely new DVD playing software. Please help!

Thank you!

I contacted Roxio for support, and I received the following reply:

"Thank you for contacting Roxio Technical Support

Set your computers date to January 1st, 2008.

Thanks for contacting Roxio Customer Care. Let us know if you need further assistance on this issue by clicking the Update button.

Regards,

Roxio Technical Support

This did not help, and I am uninstalling Roxio Cineplayer for the last time. Good riddance to bad software! I have installed InterVideo WinDVD as a replacement, and guess what? No problems, better features, user-friendly interface, and you even get a 2 week free trial before you buy it.

I will never purchase any Roxio product again. Their product failed on me, and their customer service is a joke.

Good riddance. It is worth the cost of a different brand of DVD software to end this DVD nightmare once and for all.
