MiniDV - DVD

Nick123

Question

I am trying to copy MiniDV tapes to DVD and the first problem I have is it says "incompatible disc" in plug and burn. I've tried a second DVD (from the ones supplied), same message and I'm definately using the DVD drive rather than CD on my PC.

Any advice?

Second, can I transfer video using a USB cable rather than DV?

My PC hasn't got a fire-wire.

Oh how I wish I'd got a DVD camcorder!!

The quality of the captured video is far superior with miniDV tape, vs miniDVD cameras, if you are capturing your video via firewire. You don't want to use a USB cable.

Try capturing directly to your hard drive instead of using Plug and Burn. You can bring that captured video into MyDVD and create menus or burn it to a disc without menus.

See if EMC 10 recognizes that your burner is there. Put a blank DVD in your burner, and click on the EMC 10 icon on your desktop. Once it opens, click on Tools, then on Disc information. Does it list your burner and say there is a blank disc in it?

As far as I know, Plug n Burn will not work with a USB cable. You're best bet would be to buy a PCI firewire card and a firewire cable to connect the camcorder.

Plug N Burn would work fine plus you would also be able to use Media Import, too. Cards and cable aren't that expensive any more.
