HP EMC9 OEM Lincening question

p4ntb0y@hotmail.com

Question

Hi,

I have a number of HP machines in our domain..

I have the following models which come with the following software....

DC5750 Roxio “Easy Media Creator 9 and Sonic Digital Media Plus”

DC7700 Roxio “Media Plus 7”

DC7600 Roxio “Media Plus”

DC7100 Roxio “Easy Media Creator 6”

D530 Roxio “Easy Media Creator 5”

D510 Roxio “Easy Media Creator 5”

D500 Roxio “Easy Media Creator 5”

6910p Not Known

6400 Sonic Media Plus

6220 Not Known

6000 Not Known

610c Not Known

600c Not Known

These items are installed on the HP (OEM) Image we have now wiped the the HP OEM image and use our Corp windows XP image.

Now will I be legal if I Install the above software onto our CORP image based on the model and software version that came with that model? IE Can I create a silent install and deploy the different versions by GPO/SMS to the correct Model that had it origanally.

I have created silent installers for all versions I need.

any help would be great

James sorry but I think you did not read the post fully...

"You have too many versions so you would be illegally using your V7 to upgrade the V5 and V6 versions"

I never said I would upgrade anything?

"Likewise each copy was licensed to that Specific PC and is not yours to do whatever your want."

I said that in the post I have say 12000 DC5750 these come with "Easy Media Creator 9 and Digital Media Plus" with the box.

Same goes for the other models they come with whatever software at the time.

The question is can I deploy the HP OEM MSI to my CORP image on the new 12000 x dc5750's which came with "EMC 9" yes I have 12000 EMC 9 Disc's but they are all exacatly the same I do not need to use a key even as its inbuilt into the MSI.

Now do I deploy if the OEM (HP in this case) say I can ...

A Keep the files on my Network.

B. deploy these accross my network.

I am sure they will agree as I buy alot of kit and its easy to change suppilers.

Who actually owns the Lincening HP (As they have the OEM From Roxio)? or Roxio where it came from origanally?

I think the answer is going to be HP as Roxio will not support a HP OEM cd.

I just want to make sure that I am 100% legal but spending extra moneys is hard to justify when in fact I can deploy the MSI if the OEM agrees.

I think that you are asking questions that only Roxio, or your supplier, can answer. This is just a users forum, and the folks here have no clue about volume type installs.

As far as I know, Roxio doesn't work in a network environment.

p4ntb0y@hotmail.com,

You should be discussing this with Roxio, and the people there who are employed specifically to work with businesses in your position, as suggested in post #2 of this topic.

I'm sure you aren't asking customers at HP, so why are you asking customers here?

Regards,

Brendon

@James I sorry if my post offends

I am not offended in the least…

You asked if it were legal and it is not.

If you make an Image of each PC then yes. But the software is licensed for one install.

So an image of a particular group of PCs using the software from one would not be legal.

Likewise, unless you bought it separately, the Windows OS is licensed only to the machine it was installed on and is not transferable. If you image each PC, OK but you cannot image a group…

Actually the machien is OEM'ed with windows XP.

I have a CORP Licence which allows me to image as many as I like as long as the OEM is the same or higher on which the machine is OEM'ed (I have maybe 250,000 Units)

no software is in my image I have 40 different hardware types, 4 different HALS but one image keeps my TCO down.

I would be deploying the files to my machine remotley as the software is the same. (Only talking about EMC 9) I have not had a proper reply from roxio as from what I have gathered HP have bought the rights to the HP OEM'ed EMC hence why roxio will not support the HP version unless you pay for the VL.

As I do not need support then I only have to talk to HP and if they agree That I can hold the files on the network and only that software gets deployed to the machine that it was OEM'ed for then be ok.

The other option is not to have it at all.

I can just go back to HP and say I dont want DVD/CD-RW Drives and so then the problem goes away, but then HP do not get the monies for the extra drive and Roxio do not get the costs from HP for the OEM'ed EMC 9.

I am just waiting on a reply from HP which is looking good

Its a shame that Roxio sales are to intrested in trying to sell me other products and not actually anwsering my question on lincencing I am on my 4th mail to them.

I just wanted my users to be able to use the EMC 9 as I do like the product and they get more fuction than the inbuilt CD buring wizard.

I have never heard or read that anywhere James, "the software is licensed for one install" . If that were true why would HP provide a disc?? Would you please point me to that document...

OK - so you just click 'alright I agree' when the EULA box comes up on the screen??

The RoxioLicense Now! program allows organizations to deploy Roxio software over the network and incorporate Roxio products into a standard corporate image (something prohibited by most OEM license agreements). The program simplifies license management as there is only one license and one CD-key to administer

http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/enterpri...ns/default.html

You can now get the same version of Creator that came with your corporate PCs or newly installed CD or DVD burners. But with a Roxio volume license, you can now install the software corporate wide or even incorporate it into your standard PC image*.
