I just wanted to compliment Roxio's Customer Service on keeping their users informed when a crucial update was available.
As a registered user of Toast 6 and 7, as well as Popcorn, I have been privileged to receive 45 emails about Toast 8 since it was introduced in January of this year (not counting the duplicates that they keep sending to my old email address despite my repeated attempts to unsubscribe it).
I decided that there really wasn't anything I really needed in Toast 8, so I've been sticking with Toast 7. Of course it broke when Leopard came out and I was waiting for a new version to be released.
Imagine how grateful I was to find out 7.1.3 was released!
Now you might imagine that the same people who had emailed me 45 times to try to sell me something, and the same people with whom I have registered version 7 of their software, would be anxious to tell me, a paying customer, that they had a new version available for me.
After all, what's the purpose of registering software? I'd bet 99% of people would say that YES they want to know when new, free updates are available.
When did the email from Roxio arrive, telling me about 7.1.3's release a week ago?
Exactly *never*.
I have gotten an email from them (well two if you count the duplicate) about ... wait for it... TOAST 8!
Was there an email about 7.1.3? No.
Was there a footnote telling me that an update was available? No.
So apparently the purpose of registering my software with Roxio is so I can be added to their sales list, not so they could actually do anything helpful with it. (Considering that I can't download the 7.1.3 update without logging into your website, you could, if you wanted to, go through and tell who has downloaded it and who has not.)
Apparently there was a notice from inside Toast 7.1.2, but of course I haven't launched 7.1.2 since I knew it was incompatible with Leopard. Certainly you can see the error in logic in telling people about an update through software that they aren't going to be using until the update is available.
Gee, is Toast 8 out? Really? I hadn't heard. *rolls eyes*
I'm a little surprised that 7.1.3 doesn't have a splash screen ad for Toast 8. Maybe 7.1.4.
I sooooo wish that someone else would come up with a good alternative to Toast which could burn MPEG-2 files and add some simple menus. Because I don't see any reason to give you any more of my hard earned money when you show me such little respect as an existing customer. Unfortunately you've got a corner on the market which is bad news for your customers.
Is it too much to ask that you send ONE flippin' email to tell your existing customers about a free crucial update? Or are we just Wallets With Email Addresses to you?

And then (this is my favorite part) when I click on the button to download the update to 7.1.2 YOU TRY TO SELL ME TOAST 8 AGAIN!!!! The link leads to http://www.roxio.com/enu/promotions/landin...astcompare.html
