....As I understand from your post the folder is required to be there for all players to play the blu ray correctly... so my question is how to add that folder to the hard disk folder so that when you burn a hard disk folder the Acss is transferred to the blu ray?

A limited response:

First: Yes there are players that will play a BDMV folder without havin an AACS folder: The Sony players like the BDP-S1 WHEN PLAYING BDMV PROJECTS ON DVD-R media want no AACS folder, and report it as "AVCHD" even thought my DVDit Pro HD projects are mpeg2. The way to make these discs is to NOT burn to and .iso image but "burn to a folder" You then use your Burn Facility (Cyberlink for me) and make a DVD data disc, drag only the BDMV folder there and before burning assure it is UDF 2.5 file format, not iso9660.

Second: The AACS folder is usually just empty.

Third: I have the BDP-S1, not PS3 so I can't try it. Nephew has one though so I'll have him try one of my DVD-Rs done with the PS3 patch in a couple of weeks

Just curious, why do you ask?

Is there some "player" that will play the bluray disc if the folder is NOT there?

Simply because if you author a hard disk folder from DVDit it won't have the Acss folder and if you burn from that hard disk folder the resulting disk will not have an ACSS folder... so I wondered if that can be displayed correctly by the PS3 (The only player I'm interested in and planning to have)...
