tmanning
I bought this product yesterday for the express purpose of making backups. (I had a copy of MY DVD which was excellent for backups, but lost it). The front of the box has bullet points, the second of which is "Safer back-up" On the back of the box it states "copies & back-up made simple", and "Back-up your media and data files to CDs, DVDs . . . " But under other tasks, "Back-up projects" is grayed out --- doesn't work. I think that I have been ripped off. Tom
james_hardin
We have yet to see what version Tmanning has, Jim. It doesn't seem like 9. Please don't despair just yet, Tmanning, tell me what that Help > About. . . says. Did the cut-down version 6-in-the-red-box have a real backup program that we can get working, or just a 'teaser' to annoy people into paying more money? I don't have the version 6 variant to work on. Brendon He passed by all the other forums and posted in the ECD and DVD Burning (in Red Box) forum… He bought it "yesterday"… The Red Box version doesn't have BUMP included and "Backup Project" was removed from Classic… Brendon, do you think he has Nero? Brendon
He passed by all the other forums and posted in the ECD and DVD Burning (in Red Box) forum… He bought it "yesterday"… The Red Box version doesn't have BUMP included and "Backup Project" was removed from Classic… Hi Jim, As you will know, the first two guarantee nothing in the Grand Scheme of Things . Not wishing to "assume" too much I was waiting to be sure that Tmanning didn't actually have V6. I had missed the fact that Soxio had still left "teaser" buttons in Creator Classic after stripping the software out, so I didn't look in there. However it looks like these were what Tmanning was referring to and that would about confirm that he has the current V9 software. Thanks for pointing them out, Jim. TOM, If you bought this product specifically to do backups, after being influenced by the packaging, I do think you have been misled and have good reason to return it for a refund. I don't work for Sonic/Roxio so I can't command them, but a refund seems reasonable to me. Regards, Brendon
Brendon
I'm not sure exactly what is in the "Red Box" Version, but I know it is missing some major features. That's almost straight out of Mossberg - "I haven't used it but I know I won't like it" - Those of us who do the answering here are mostly customers who have bought Roxio and/or Sonic software and use it. But you haven't used this software Lyn, and it shows. And it confuses people who think you have used the software you talk about. You should stick to software you are using or else be honest and start your answers with "I've never used this software, but . . . ". Tmanning, What software did you buy, please? I am running Easy CD and DVD Burning in the red box with the Vista compatability notice on the front, and it doesn't have a 'backup projects' tab or button. I'm wondering if someone has sold you some old stock from somewhere, and you actually have a cut-down version of Easy CD & DVD Creator 6. Would you please run the program and go to the top toolbar, Help > About This Software and see what is displayed? It should look very like this, if you have the current software. If it doesn't have something very close to that in name and numbers, would you tell us please what the first three lines under the red Roxio label say? james_hardin
Actually I never noticed the Task Buttons before… I always go through the File menu and Backup is not listed under New Projects. Few stores will allow Software returns after the box is opened but they could sure give it a try…
james_hardin
You ripped yourself off… There is no universal definition of "Backup". The Red Box version does not have a "dedicated backup program" included. However, it does have Creator Classic and Disc Copier with which you can create "backups" by copying your import files to optical media. So while the program does not offer what you read into the writing on the box it can indeed make copies, hence backups.

lynn98109
I am assuming what you have is what this Forum is for - the "Red Box" Version of Easy Media Creator, with a sticker or other marker saying "Vista Compatible". The "Red Box" Version is a cut-down of Easy Media Creator 9 - and with a price to match - $30 vs $99. I'm not sure exactly what is in the "Red Box" Version, but I know it is missing some major features. You might express your reaction to Roxio - contact info is here: http://www.roxio.com/enu/support/service/ Those of us who do the answering here are mostly customers who have bought Roxio and/or Sonic software and use it. Once in a while someone from Roxio drops by, but it's rare, and they have a Roxio logo by their name. If the idea is to use the program to back up your .docs, .jpgs, etc - use Classic Creator and burn CDs or DVDs. Using a backup program for that kind of stuff merely puts it into a form from which it can only be revived by the program that did the back-up. Usually it has some form of data compression, and there is no way to retrieve it if the program is not available - say, if you get a newer Operating System which won't run the program.
