capture video using USB instead of firewire

mcd4

Question

Our new camcorder does not use a firewire to import the video to the computer - it has only a USB connection. Is there any way to re-configured EMC 10 to capture the video from the camcorder (Panasonic HDR-H18) using the USB connection?

I have the same problem, but I got the files to my hard drive with no trouble. My problem is that Roxio doesn't recognize them. I have a JVC HDD camcorder and the files have a .MOD extension. HELP. :angry2:

If Roxio won't work then I am out a lot of money.

Gotta love proprietary formats. Try changing the file extension to .mpg, and see if they come in. I believe that is the way some folks have got it to work.

Type .MOD in the search box, upper right part of your screen, and you should get some hits. Make sure you click on All Forums, over to the left side of the box that comes up.

Edit: Here is a URL that should help you:

After working with my nephew's JVC camcorder, you're best bet is to use the software that came with it (Cyberlink Director Express). That software will also sort the files correctly (hex numbering that Explorer does not sort correctly) and convert to the proper MPEG format. If you shoot in widescreen you have NO CHOICE. Changing the extension doesn't work.

That camcorder records to a hard drive. Plug it in, with the USB cable, and it should show up in My Computer. You simply copy the files/folders to your hard drive. No capture needed.
