EMC 10 WON'T INSTALL!

pfletch6

Question

I am new here, hello:) I recently purchsaed EMC 10 thinking that I could install it and start using it on my computer, I really like some of the programs that it has on it. But when I went to install it last night it would install very quickly and when it was done I was not able to find its location anywhere on my computer. So this means it didn't install all the way. Now do I need the EMC 9 suite in order to install 10? I have been on the roxio website trying to find suite 9 but I guess you cannot buy it on the website anymore?!?!

Please I hope someone can help me out, thanks:)

Perry

I NEED HELP ASAP PLEASE!!!!!

Get a new 320GB hard drive, and make it your C: drive!

I HAVE a brand new 320 GB drive, NOTHING is on it, I want this program to install on that instead of my C drive, I can't empty my C drive, I have programs on it that I can't get rid of!! I want my NEW 320GB drive to be the drive that everything goes on now because my C drive is filling up.

So in order to do this, I went in and changed where my temp stuff goes, into my P: drive instead of my C drive, I tried to install but nothing happened:( You know, I had this program on my computer for about a month, I installed it via download, it worked fine up until last week and then it didn't work at all. That is why I bought it thinking that having the actual copy it would work better but I was wrong:(

Even if EMC 10 installs on a separate drive, there is a lot that still installs to the OS partition, which is the C: drive.

You can keep banging your head against the wall, but it may be down to making your larger drive, your C: drive, or get rid of the crap you have on your C: drive, and install it on the 320 GB drive you have now.

The choice is yours.

No, you do not need EMC 9 to install V10. The install folder should be:

C:\Program Files\Roxio

Some people have reported installation problems. Copy the CD to a temp folder on the hard drive and run setup from there. That has solved the issue for a few posters.

Is the V10 only an upgrade version? It says on the website that this version is an upgrade version for those who have V7,8 and 9. I checked everywhere after it installed and I could not find Roxio anywhere, even in the program files, nothing...

When I install it, only 2 bars show and then all of a sudden its done....I have spybot on my computer, could that be stopping the program from installing?

When the setup starts, the language thing comes up, there is no option that asks where I want this program to go location wise so I can't save it into a temp. folder and then I accept the terms and then I put in the serial number, it installs, takes like 2 seconds and then its done, so what is going on, why isn't it installing?

Oh and also, what comes in the box when the retail version is bought, all I got in my box was a cd-rom and a booklet, that was it, is there suppose to be more included in that box?

Yeah I know that makes sense, I am actually in the process of defragmenting my HD and Moving a bunch of stuff from my C drive to my externals, its working so far, got 15GB so far, went from 4 to 15, and its not done yet:) I will report back, thanks your advice:)

I think you are confusing a upgrade with update.

If I have V1 of a program and they came out with a "update" it would go to V1.1, its still version 1.

If I had V1 and I purchased V2 that would be a upgrade.

Did you try the suggestion that was recommended in post #2

Well I wanted to install the entire program and with that you don't get to choose where the file goes, only when you install the middle option which is all the necessary programs. But if I buy an upgrade and don't have a previous version of the software then how is it an "upgrade"...that is why I am wondering if I need 9 in order for 10 to work?!?!

EDIT...Just did suggestion from post #2, I had the files go to c\program files\Roxio, it installed up to four green bars and then said it was done, I would assume that the installation would take a bit longer than that and it would fill the entire bar before it said finished. It was doing that last night, installing almost completely, at one point it said it was unsuccessful, I think my spybot was blocking it so I turned that off and still nothing, it will not install completely!!!!

You don't need 9 - 9 to 9.1 was an update

10 is an upgrade

In general, unless it specifically states that it requires an earlier installation, then you don't have to worry about it.

I can understand your confusion - some s/w makers refer to 'upgrades' for cheap versions which require a prior install (they're using the rerm incorrectly as what you are doing in that case is updating App1 to App2 and not actually upgrading)

However, Roxio doesn't work that way - each upgrade is a standalone installation which doesn't need a prior version - in fact in a lot of cases you can have two versions on the same computer

Ok that makes sense:) So how come V10 isn't installing on my computer at all, I have tried at lease 10 times if not more, its the same thing each time and when its done there is no location at all, not even a desktop shortcut. Do I need to do something before it installs, this is what is frustrating me the most!! I know that I will not be able to return this to Best Buy and getting my money back, it will most likely be an exchange.

Turn off your anti-virus software, Zone Alarm, if you have it, Defender, if you have it, and Spybot, before you try to install.

I tried copying the program to a folder and then tried running setup from the folder...the program still did not install on my computer completely, when I went the EMC 10 folder to run the installation, it wouldn't install because I had to run setup first, so its not installing on my computer and it doesn't give a reason why, it says that it has finished installing when it hasn't installed anything at all!!!!

When you copied, whatever you copied to a folder, were there a lot of files or just a file with an .exe extension?

From the Eset FAQs on their website

"How can I temporarily turn AMON off? Some applications require turning off the antivirus protection for their installation. Please be careful when turning off AMON since you are temporarily disabling virus protection. Please do not forget to start AMON immediately after installing the application.

To turn off the AMON module, open the NOD32 control center by clicking the NOD32 icon in the Windows system tray."

What are your computer specs, including video card, hard drive and free space? I don't think you have listed that anywhere in your previous posts or I missed it.

Added specs, please someone answer my last question, do I need the Sonic encoders and decoders? This is driving me crazy!! I don't think that this program is returnable to Best Buy because it has a serial number

:(

I have 4.24Gb left on my local C hard drive but my newest hard drive is empty, I try to install the program to that HD but it doesn't work:(

So I defragmented my C: HD and it went from 4GB to 22 GB...I just tried installing the program again, spybot caught a couple of things and it didn't install:( Any other suggestions?

TURN OFF SPYBOT, BEFORE INSTALLING ANY SOFTWARE!!!!!!!!! Also, read this, previously posted in this thread.

Before proceeding any further, you should first of all clean up your C: drive to have at least 15GB of free space. With only 4.24GB free you will never be able to do much video work. The Sonic encoders and decoders have nothing to do with your install problems. I believe your big problem is the lack of free space on your C: drive

Well I can't delete 15GB off my C: drive, I would like to put this program on my new HD, its internal, why can't I use my other hard drive to put this program on?? Its got TONS of space?!?!

Ok well The Sonic encoders are gone now, the cleanup said get rid of anything with Sonic and Roxio in it so I did...I hope it doesn't hurt my computer...but anyways, I plan on doing alot of video work and saving that work on my Main Drive (P:) Any chance you know how I can make that drive second in line for stuff to go to?
