Dialogue Box Without Information - Can't Add Text

Floyd

Question

Hello. I created a Video Wave Project on my laptop and I copied the production to my desktop. I needed to add an extra color slide with text, but for some reason, when I attempt to do this, I get a pop-up window that doesn't contain any information (please see attached 1.bmp). If I click details, I get what's shown in attachment 2.bmp--absolutely nothing. If I click <OK>, I can't add any text. Another thing I've noticed is that I cannot preview my presentation--none of the slides appear in the preview screen--it's just a black screen.

One thing to note is that I didn't have this problem on this desktop before installing a PNY GeForce Graphics Card. The only reason I installed it was because yesterday, when I attempted to output my production to a DVD, I kept getting an error during the rendering process. When I looked up this error on your forum site, it said I needed to have a better graphics card (I was just using the embedded video card that came with my Dell GX280 Computer). So, I went out and bought a new card, and the ironic part is that it did render the project successfully to an ISO file, but when I burned it to a DVD, it wouldn't play--it said that the format of this DVD could not be recognized.

Anyway, I'm stuck and I could sure use your help.

Thanks

PS--I tried adding the images 1.bmp and 2.bmp, but it prompted me to enter a URL--I thought I could just uload them as files. Anyway, the only thing the pop-up window says is 'Roxio Video Wave' in the blue header of the window and absolutely no text in the window body. If you click <Details>, the same thing--no text.

After updating my video driver to the latest and also upgrading DirectX from the link you provided, when I attempt to burn the presentation to an ISO image, it gets to about 45% and then it just stops--it doesn't lock up--it just ceases to continue. The only option I have is to cancel.

I have defragmented my hard drive and there is about 18GB of free space on the drive I am writing the ISO to. I also do not have the 'burn to disc' option selected when burning.

Do you have any further suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

Which Geforce? Change the rendering to software and see if it completes:

Open MyDVD

Click on TOOLS / OPTIONS

At the top of the dialog box, there are two selects: hardware and software. Make sure software is selected and close.

Load your project and burn to folder to see if it completes.

Actually, it's already set to render in software mode. Any other suggestions? Could it be that I am using Potluck Transitions? I noticed that if I am in Hardware Render Mode, I get the option to use 'Potluck Transitions' but when in Software Render Mode, those options aren't available. So, when I created my project, I was in Hardware Render Mode (I wanted to use the Potluck Transitions). However, I change it back to Software Render Mode during the encoding process because when I ran the Graphics Test, that is what EMC advised me to do.

Should I change all of my transitions? I really will hate to do this because it will change the timing of my presentation, meaning that all of my audio will be out of sync.

Please advise.

Thanks

Which Geforce? Most of the newer Geforce chipsets should run in hardware mode. If you originally had it set for hardware and used 'potluck' and then changed it back to render, that would cause a problem. The 3D transitions are NOT available for software rendering so rendering would stop at those.

You will need to change to software and then change your transitions. I think there is a 'random' available with software render. Has been awhile since I used that feature.

If you have a newer Geforce video card, getting it to work with hardware render is usually just a driver issue. I have the Geforce 7300GS. When I updated to the newest drivers, I lost hardware render and had to go back to an earlier version (93.71) which I'm sticking with right now.

I appreciate your help.

Here is the information on my Video Card:

NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200

Driver Date: 10/4/2007

Driver Version: 6.14.11.6375

Again, I just updated the driver and DirectX, yet when I select <Graphics Test>, it tells me to use <Software> for rendering. Should I just force it to use Hardware even though the Graphics Test doesn't recommend that? Is this a good video card?

Thanks

Looks like you are using an older driver. Click on one of these links.

ForceWare Release 90

Version: 93.71

Release Date: November 2, 2006

Operating System: Windows 2000/XP/MCE

ForceWare Release 90

Version: 94.24

Release Date: May 17, 2007

Operating System: Windows 2000/XP/MCE

WHQL Certified

I'm still using the 93.71, but some are using the 94.24 succesfully. To install these drivers, you must go to the Control Panel and remove the older first. REBOOT. You will boot up and get the 'I found new hardware'. Cancel that and install the updated driver.

I'm sure one of these will help.

When you move a production from the laptop to the desktop computer, make sure you copy ALL FILES that were used. Any still images and/or video files must be copied. The pop you are getting is most likely that warning message that it can't find the files.

Since the box is empty, most likely a video driver problem. PNY makes good cards, but the included drvers could be out of date. Go to www.nvidia.com and get the latest driver for your OS (XP or Vista). Also make sure you have the latest DirectX. Get that here.
