Loss of capability after upgrade to emc10

Wilson

Question

I have generally been pleased with my current MyDVD software contained in Sonic DigitalMedia Plus V7. EMC 10 was advertised to keep all the features of my old software and add all kinds of wonderful stuff, so I bought the upgrade... The problem is, and maybe someone can steer me right, some of the really neat features I used a lot in the old software has either disappeared, or at least I can't find it.

1. The scene detection capability, with ability to transfer the results directly to the storyboard with one click of a well defined button, seems to have been deleted in the upgrade. If it's still there I can't find it.

2. The really clever scenes (Santa Claus, birthday boxes, thumbs up, wedding scenes. etc.) seem to have been deleted. These were great for making movies when the subject was a birthday, Christmas, a vaction, and many other activities. Are they still there and I just can't find them?

3. I don't seem to be able to import vhs tapes through my digital camera using the av-dv feature, which I can do easily with the older software. This has the bad side effect of having to use a component hookup directly from the VCR to the computer. This results in a degraded picture from the preferred method. Don't know why, but there are more flutters and distortions using the component connection.

Scene detection can be reached two ways, Media Manager, navigate to the video file and right click, use the appropriate control. or use CineMagic to select the scenes and do the final editing in Video Wave.

I don't know what you mean by scenes are you asking about overlays or MyDVD menu themes?

You have to use a firewire connection to your computer USB won't work.Component connections from your VCR to your camcorder (?) should give you a better (slightly) image. How are you connecting an analog device directyl to your computer? You need some sort of A/d converter. Video Card?

Thank you for you interest. The "Scene Detection" is a feature on myDVD software with the older version. It was something like the Chapter Find feature on the EMC 10 (which doesn't work well by the way) but a little better at finding breaks in the action and appropiate scenes. It is great for seperating a long video into managable parts (or scenes) and moving the scenes to the storyboard.

The clever scenes I alluded to was really a mistake in naming the effect. What I meant was a series of graphics that can be inserted into the main movie at the beginnig or end of each scene for effect, fun, or to highlight whats coming. Text of your choice can be added or not, depending on the the users preference.

The connection I mentioned, for importing VHS tapes into the computer is to hook the VCR into a camera with AV-DV capability. The camera is attached to the computer with a firewire connector. That doesn't work with EMC10. Works just fine with with my "old" version. My computer, by the way, has an analog to digital converter so I can input an analog signal directly from the VCR using component cables. (Not the preferred way)

The only problem that I remember, from a post for a previous version, was a problem with Canon camcorders being used for pass-through.

I capture from a VHS source (both camcorder and VHS recorder) using my digital DV camcorder in the pass through mode without any problem so that shows that EMC 10 do it.
