PS3 update- lost playback again

shueardm

Question

It seems everytime I update the firmware my discs don't playback- until i fiddle with display and/or BD/DVD settings and stumble accorss the right mix (but i never remember which it was)

Now with the newest firmware the discs do not play, they freeze the system and it needs a reboot.

Am I alone and what is the mix that works?

I made a disk with Encore, using the same m2v files as for DVDit Pro HD and it played on the PS3, 2.10. The DVDit Pro HD didn't. Encore has other problems, mostly creating red frames at random points in the encoded files.

Maybe it's my cable or something- but normal BD ROM play ok. :(

Steve - you had me scared there - I have 3 - PS3 systems so upgraded one of them from 2.00 to 2.10 and my BD-R discs (with several titles on one disc - motion menus etc) played perfectly. After each new PS3 firmware update you may have to go in to "Display setting" and reset the display and audio output to your TV/audio out specifications.

Updated to version 2.10 now and it's still not working.

What settings do you guys have in the display and BD settings?

So Sony have broken it for us PAL users and and I wouldn't risk it if you are NTSC land unless you have to update for games.

A big BUGGER is in order.

I just tried a new project with 3 titles, 4 menus, motion thumbnails, playlist - works fine on the 2.10 - hope Sony will fix it for PAL people in future upgrades. Sort of makes one worry though - especially with archiving family movies for the kids at $ 17/disc (TDK printable) that they will not be playable at some future date and have to all be redone (I am saving my BDMV Volumes just in case on several hard drives).

I have solved it :)

If you set the unit up using Display Settings>HDMI>Automatic> my profile is selected as 1080i output and it does not playback 50i video.

If you change that to Display Settings>HDMI>Custom>1080i then it bloody works. (I can also select 1080p)

Why this is so who knows but it’s finally solved.

:D GREAT!

I should mention that this is just my observations- I'm yet to hear from another PAL user.

Actually there's no such thing as PAL or NTSC HDV- to be technically correct it's just 50i HD sources that aren't working.

It's frustrating but Sony may have changed something in there. be careful with updates 2.01 and 2.1. If you are working with 1.93 and nothing in the updates is critical I wouldn't mess with it. If they made a change that we can modify our software to we will, but it could take a little while...

So, is it SAFE to upgrade the PS3 to firmware 2.10????????

No.

I have just confirmed that 2.10 breaks playback for PAL discs.

I have done the following.

1) Tried old PAL discs that used to work (authored DVDit PRO HD with patch)- result failed

2) Tried new PAL disc authored Encore CS3 - result failed.

3) Tried new NTSC disc authored Encore CS3- result PASSED

So Sony have broken it for us PAL users and and I wouldn't risk it if you are NTSC land unless you have to update for games.
