Doesn't recognize CD

wittyraconteur

Question

I just updated from EMC9 to EMC10. When I go to burn a CD it recognizes my drives properly. I insert a blank CD and the system acknowledges there is an empty 700 MB disc in the drive, but says it needs an 80 minute CD. When I try to burn anyway it just sits there and does nothing for hours.

I am running Windows XP - Office 2002. Everything worked fine in EMC9. Please help.

Try burning a CD, with the native OS (operating system) software. If it doesn't work, the burner is probably dead.

Both drives burn fine in other programs, but these programs don't have crossfade capability, which is what I bought Roxio DMC 10 for. I can even burn in EMC 10 program Easy Audio CD, but not Music Disc Creator.

Anything else I may have over looked? :glare:

Is this a music CD? If so, use Music Disc Creator.

Sorry... I tried using Music Disc Creator. I tried downloading the latest update. I have tried using a different brand of blank CD-R. I have since made format discs. Nothing has helped. It still says...

Blank CD-R, Free Space 702.8MB - (1-CD-R 80 minutes needed)

If I try to force it to start it says...

Current Task: Please Wait (0%) for hours. I let it run all night.

Try running the PX engine, and see if that help.

Congratulations. Update the firmware for your burner. The maximum speed, that your burner will burn, is whatever the maximum speed the software sees for your burner, depending on the media to which you are burning.

As I previously mentioned, last night I upgraded my firmware/drivers, to no avail. In a fit of frustration I set the computer to defragment overnight. When I woke everything was fixed except on fragmented file EMC10. I think I am going to have to wait until my discs arrive in my mail and do a complete reinstall. Thanks for the help though.

My recommendation would be to backup all of your important data, and format you hard drive, then reinstall XP or Vista, whichever you are using.

Explain the exact steps that you are taking, starting with opening Music Disc Creator.

Explain the exact steps that you are taking, starting with opening Music Disc Creator.

I open Roxio EMC 10. I click on the Music Disc Creator. I click Add Audio tracks. I add the songs I want to hear. I click on the transition buttons to set the crossfade times I want. I click on burn and the burn window opens and it says Blank CD-R, Free Space 702.8 MB ( 1 CD-R 80 min needed). If I use a formatted CD-R it says Single Session CD-R (1 CD-R 80 min needed).

I have updated all drivers and firmware. I have deleted and reinstalled the drivers. I have run the latest version of PX engine. All my ATA/ATAPI Devices are enabled to DMA.

I am stumped and appreciate your tenacity in helping me trouble shoot this problem.

I was so hopeful the PX engine would fix it... but it did not.

Any other ideas?

Since CD are cheap, try making a short version of the project to see if it will burn properly. Are you trying to make an audio disc with mp3 files? I remember in an earlier version that the program would give a false reading on total size.

Making a short version will help trouble shoot the program, your CD and your burner. Make sure you are using good quality CD blanks.

Ok, put in a blank CD, not a formatted one. Click on Audio CD, and add all of your tracks, as you did before. Click on Burn. Does it show the right burner?

Towards the bottom of that screen, you should see a drop down box that says Burn options. Click on the + sign, and see if it is showing any burn speed.

Yes... I did this. The burn speed was slower than the maximum, but the disc burned properly and is playable on a traditional CD player.

I tried to make a shorter (smaller) version and it still did not burn. I am using Sony blank CD-Rs (which I thought were higher quality. I have burned CDs successfully before from both my burners, they just don't seem to work with this software.

I really appreciate all the help. Any other ideas?

Vague?

Which specific program in the Suite are you trying to use?

How big is the project?

Did you format the CD you are trying to use?

Sorry to be vague, I didn't know what kind of information people would need to help me. I was using Creator Classic to make CD's for Christmas presents. Data size was less than 700 MB (78 minutes of music run time). I did not format the CD I was trying to use because I have never had to do this before.

Any ideas?
