Problems Uninstalling Easy CD and DVD Creator 6

Recommended Posts

I've recently had Easy CD and DVD Creator 6 stop burning CDs and DVDs. I tried to uninstall the program through Add/Remove programs and reinstall, but it crashed Windows XP Pro several times in the process. I can't fully remove the program anymore. I've searched all of the threads and used the RoxioZap tool and followed all (or all that my computer would let me do) the instructions in the "Clean Uninstall of Easy CD Creator 5" article (ID Number: EEZ000182) that I found in a forum. HOWEVER, I cannot delete the Roxio folder from the following registry entry. It denies me access to delete it everytime. I have only the basic processes loaded through using msconfig to shut everything else down. I don't know what else to try. I want to make sure the next install I try is the last one (on about attempt 10 right now).

* Remove the Roxio and Adaptec registry entries

* Expand the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it (or clicking the + next to it.)

* Expand the SOFTWARE Key

* Locate the Roxio and Adaptec folders, right click each folder and click on Delete

Also, I noticed that I need to revert back to IE6 and WMP 10. I am running both IE7 and WMP11 now. Seems as though this is probably the real problem behind the coasters I've been burning.

Please advise on how to delete the registry keys and what is preventing them from being deleted! I've completed everything else.

Open Task Manager (use the three finger salute of Ctrl Alt Del) and shut down any processes concerned with Roxio - you can't remove a registry entry if the app is still running

That done, remove IE7 and WMP11 and re-install ECD6

I understand that you can't delete registry entries if the app is running. But, that is my very point. I loaded the OS in diagnostic mode where only basic windows processes are running and no apps. No applications are loaded in Task Manager and only the following processes are listed under Image Name: taskmgr, explorer, svchost, lsass, services, winlogon, csrss, smss, System, and System Idle Process. I am hesitant to stop any of these processes unless you can tell me for certain which one is causing the "Error while deleting Key" problem since these are all basic windows processes and shutting one down can cause major problems with the system.

The two folders in the Roxio folder under HKEY-LOCALMACHINE / SOFTWARE registry are "Master Installer" and "Roxio Shared". Any idea why these two are being stubborn?

Check in C:\documents and settings\<username> - there will be a hidden folder there called 'application data' - you will need to make that visible using tools, view files and then delete the two folders in there

Thet should clear the registry entries

Thanks for the quick responses! I tried your suggestion and found only one folder called "Roxio" which I deleted. I checked all of the users' folders on the system and deleted those Roxio folders too. However, the registry entries are still there, and I still get the same error when trying to delete them. What do you suggest next? Or, should I just try to install it at this point?

Hi there - I have the same problem.

I tried everything in the last two days as recommended above - there is no Roxio folder left in my "Application Data", yet in the Registry HKEY_L_M the Roxio folders is hanging in for dear life.

Same question

[and I'm getting slowly paranoid about installing any of my two choices, ECDC 6 or my upgrade EMC 9.1 XE]

Install or not install?

I would appreciate help

Carlo

If you can't remove registry entries, perhaps you don't have the right Windows permissions to edit the entries.

Try Regseeker. It's a free registry cleaner/editor from Hoverdesk (link here) which I use for a lot of my registry editing. It has the additional benefit of backing up anything you remove from the registry so it can be easily replaced if you cut too deep.

Brendon

Is having it there producing any sort of problem???

You mentioned V9.1 XE. This is not a retail version but some sort of special OEM version…
