Error when trying to open EMC 7 Audio projects

crazynightowl

Question

When I installed larger hard drives I had problems trying to re-install EMC 7/7.5 and opted to upgrade to EMC 10. Now I can't open any of my EMC 7 Project files (.rcl). When I try to open a Previously Saved Project I get an error message "Error Opening File" or a longer message about the project containing a file or files which are not supported.

I tried all combinations of the File Exclusion boxes but no luck. These projects were all created with EMC 7/7.5 and all worked perfectly with that version of the program.

What happened? Do I need to convert these somehow? I did try to find a topic previously posted about this but didn't find one. Sorry if it has been covered before.

Thanks,

CNO

Go into the search (top right on this page and type in .rcl, you should get a few hits.

You do understand that an RCL file contains nothing??? It is only a list of settings and the filename and locations of the files used…

If you don't have the originals, and they are not in the exact same location, all you have with an RCL file is the electric equivalent of a sticky note.

I don't have EMC 10 but Audio was removed from Classic. I did notice that from the Home Menu (EMC 9) if you pick Audio CD or Jukebox Disc, RCL project files are supported.

I don't have V7 but it opens my V6 files…

I guess I'm the only person in the world with this problem as a search for '.rcl' yielded only one topic, this one.

The other bad news is that tech support has just informed me that EMC 10 can not read EMC 7 Project files so I must recreate them manually. This is disappointing as I have dozens of projects saved and they are all for my own recordings and/or cuts from band rehearsals and I have no hardcopy data on which files were used, which order they were in, transitions, etc.

The good news is that I have found these EMC 7 Project files can be opened with Notepad and it's looking like I can at least extract all the files and paths fairly easily. I'll still have to reassemble them manually but at least it is doable. I'm just starting to learn C++/Windows Programming so maybe soon I will be able to write an app to at least automate the extraction process but I am surprised that a tool to do this is not already available in EMC 10. Oh well.......

When you do your search, you have to click on All Forums, before clicking on Search. Here is a list you can go through:
