pastorpm10
I just got Toast Titanium and started burning DVD recently. I would like to know exactly why the Encoding Process is so long! It took me 12 hours to burn a normal DVD because of the encoding, Is there anyway to fix this or skip it? tsantee
What was the format of the source file and how long was it? That seems like a very long time for encoding on a Macbook Pro.
pastorpm10
The movies are in .avi and .mov formats. You think this is the reason that its taking so long?
tsantee
The movies are in .avi and .mov formats. You think this is the reason that its taking so long? It depends on the specs (such as resolution and frame rate) and the length of the videos. If you have Half-pel checked in the custom encoder settings window that also doubles the encoding time. Next time you do this choose Save as disc image in the File menu instead of clicking the burn button. Then burn the resulting disc image using the Image File setting in the Copy window. That may go faster for you.
pastorpm10
so if I understand correctly (sorry I really don't know much about burning DVDs) I can burn an image of the file onto a DVD-R and it will play as normal on a DVD Player? Thanks so much for the help!

Thanks so much for the help! Correct. If you set everything up the same as if you are going to burn your DVD, choose Save as Disc Image instead. Then burn it to DVD using the Image File setting in the Copy window. You also can test the disc image by mounting it in the Finder and playing it with DVD Player. I found that my burning time nearly doubled when I upgraded from 8.0.1 to 8.0.3. The same burn that took 6-7 hours was now taking 10-11 hours. I dumped 8.0.3, went back to 8.0.1 and my times went back to the faster burns. I'm not saying this will work for you, but if you have 8.0.3, I might try find an older version.
