unsatisfied
I tried to install Roxio onto a newly reloaded XPpro system and received a message that my OEM supplied CD did not contain a version compatible with XP(even though the system was shipped with XPpro.) Typically this would not present a problem as one can log onto the manufacture site and download updates for their product. This initially appeared to be the case... but then the site required me to create an account. OK, I'll create an account that will no doubt be subsequently filled with unsolicited promotions. Now, after creating their required spam account, I was then asked to provide a credit card number to purchase an improved version of the product which I neither want or need. After poking around I was, however, able to locate a place to download legacy updates so no problem....or so I thought. Using the downloaded code the product would not install due to a previous product not being found on the newly formatted drive. Well DUH! Needless to say I am not a happy camper. You have a OEM version, all support for OEM's comes from the supplier of their product. At the top of the forum is a pinned post ( http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=125 ) you must have missed it....see if anything in there might help you with your OEM version. ECDC 5 is at least 5 or 6 years old and 5 versions behind the existing version (EMC 10).
Brendon
Unsatisfied, Version 5 does not need to be "coaxed" to run in XP. To install version 5 into XP Pro: 1) You must not have "upgraded" Internet Explorer to version 7 or Windows Media Player to version 11 - both these "enhancements" break early versions of Easy CD Creator 2) You should have previously downloaded the large 5.3.5.10 updater which fits your version (Basic or Platinum). If it helps, OEM versions are Basic, and the Basic updater is 11,626,143 bytes. 3) There is a drive recognition patch, driveup.5.3.5v.exe, 883,627 bytes. The one version does both Basic and Platinum. Apply this patch if your drive is not recognized by the software. 4) Method: -Install from CD, ignoring any 'compatibility' complaints from XP. Don't reboot -install the large 5.3.5.10 updater, and then reboot. [this prevents XP from seeing the earlier version ECDC drivers running] -apply the DriveUp patch if necessary. Regards, Brendon Brendon, If I uninstall IE7 and WMP11, then follow this procedure for reinstalling version 5, can I then reinstall IE7 and WMP11 without "breaking" version 5? Brendon
I don't believe so, Benj. With some of the other software conflicts we saw, the problem was caused by the 'other' software having a different version of an Adaptec/Roxio burning engine and reinstalling the Roxio software brought the right engine to the fore. Then all was well. With this bunch of conflicts, IE7 and WMP11 have been rewritten with no regard for other companies' software which runs in XP. The programmers were concerned only with getting things right for Vista [and didn't do extremely well there, either]. They just break a lot of established things in XP, pure and simple, and reinstallation doesn't cure that. Regards, Brendon
Benj
Thanks for the response, Brendon. Everything was working just fine on my system before I had to reinstall everything, so I *may* try it anyway, just to see what happens. If it works, I'll post a follow-up message. Happy holidays, Benj
Brendon
Good luck Benj (and seasons greetings) I have heard from a couple of people who have some form of peaceful coexistence between ECDC and the new chums, but nobody knows what allows that and once it's disturbed that seems to be the end of it. Go well, Brendon
