Creator Classic Crash

Scott_Bwk

Question

Great Program! The only problem I have found is that when I open the updated Version 10 (and before I did the update), and then click on 'Data and Backup" and then click on "Creator Classic", I get the standard MS Windows XP (with all updates) error message informing me that states "Roxio Creator Classic has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." I then click the "Don't Send" button. I then get an additional "Creator10.exe - Application Error" that states ""The instruction at "0x7c255c05" referenced memory at "0x01a9d128". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program."" I click the OK button and Creator Classic terminates. I understand that I could use the "Data and Backup" option to accomplich the same procedure, but I like the functionality of the old Creator Classic and want it to work. (Plus it's easier for my kid's to use)

Want fries with that?

Easy done especially if you weren't aware that it could do it - btw, Winrar will also let you extract files from .iso (and a whole slew of other archives)

Okay, now what? The .msi does NOT work from the downloadable update (unauthorized) and does NOT work from the original download either. I used WinZip to extract both, on seperate occasions after restarting, and did a repair using both, and got an error message for the original download and the update that was downloaded didn't work after a restart. Neither one works, and Creator Classic doesn't either.

The fries bit referred to eating is all - sorry if it caused offence

You did extract the contents of the 'program' archive to a folder didn't you? It should have worked - all you had to do was steer the app towards the new folder and to the required sub-folder which conianuined the .msi

What does "10 years active duty Topo Engineer in the US Army and 14 years as a Crime Analyst in Law Enforcement." have to do with "Want fries with that?"? All Daithy was doing was making a small joke in response to your "I have to go eat some crow" :D

I extracted both the downloaded update and the original download to seperate folders. I then tried the Repair using the original .msi file and got the error message that it was unauthorized. I then restarted, and did the same using the .msi from the downloaded update and it acted like it worked, but when I restarted, and tried to open Creator Classic, I got the same error message that started this whole problem. Nothing has been accomplished and Classic still doesn't work. I'm at a loss! And by the way, the fries were good with the "blackened crow" (cooked the same way as blackened chicken and shrimp here in the deep South).

No harm, no foul. Thanks for the help.

Does it open through the normal Start – All Programs – Roxio – Data – Creator Classic path?

Did you try a Repair through Add/Remove Programs?

Thanks for the response. It won't open through the "All Programs" option either. But I did notice that my Roxio 9 was still listed in the "All Programs" but it is not listed in "Add and Remove Programs". I did a complete uninstall of the Roxio 9 before I installed Roxio 10, but it's still listed. When I tried the "Repair" option, I was informed that it could not find the "Roxio Media Creator Suite 10.msi" file. I did a search of my drive, and it's not there. Should I go to the Roxio site and try to find the .msi file and download it. Or maybe do a complete uninstall and start over from scratch with the 719mb download from the Roxio site.

If you have the downloaded EMC 10 installation file, you can extract its contents (using Winzip or similar) to a suitable folder. Then when the repair install asks for the .msi file, you can browse to it in the folder to which you extracted the files (or it may be in one of the subfolders that get created by the extraction) .

The downloadable file is a "self-extracting executable" and is not zipped. As soon as you double-click it, it automatically expands and installs. There aren't any options to un-zip to a certain folder, it does it automatically.

Winzip will extract files from a self-extracting/executing zip file that has an .exe extension, which is the case with the files downloaded from Roxio for EMC 10.

I'll be damned!!!!! You were right.......I was wrong! Never had to do that before and didn't know it was there OR how to use it. I stand corrected. (Please don't tell anyone, I hate to admit when I'm wrong) I will let you know later if the repair works, I have to go eat some crow.
