Can't open EMC 10

Sgod

Question

Can someone help me w. this. I've installed EMC 10 (Vista) and it worked fine for a couple of days. Then all of a sudden I double-click it on the desktop and nothing happens! Same if I try and open it from the start menu or any other way. I uninstalled it and re-installed it and it seemed to work ok. Then I installed Vista beta SP-1....AND EMC 10 WORKED FINE. And again, in a few days, it just won't open when I double click it. After awhile it just doesn't open. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have a suggestion short of just re=installing? Thanks

There is a known (had it with EMC 9 also) if you use NORTON's One Button Clean-up. Roxio has a repair for EMC 9, but even knowing about this issue didn't stop them from releasing version 10 with this. I've contactd Roxio, and was told a "release is in the works". In the meantime ... I've gone back to V.9.0 and I'm not very happy about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then read the information in Post #2 of this thread. It works quite well with EMC 10.

If you suspect that the "Dead in the Water" problem with EMC 10 is caused by an over-enthusiastic registry cleaner, it might be worth trying the Sonic "Repairer" program mentioned in the Version 9 forums (click here for the pinned post) to see if it will fix the EMC 10 registry entry too.

If it does, please come back here and let us know.

Hi. I'm having some difficulty here myself. I can't open v9 or v10. I tried the Sonic Repair program - it didn't work. I run Vista w/ duo-core Intel (speed is 2.2 each), I have 3 mb ram. Onboard anti-virus is Kapersky. Also, I have used a registry cleaner, a freebie (I know, you get what you pay for, don't you!?!), name of reg cleaner is RegSeeker v1.55 . Any more advice or references would be greatly appreciated. Also... I un-installed EMC 10 and re-installed. Still, no dice.

I have switched from NSW registry cleaner to MIGO (Stompsoft) registry cleaner and have experienced no problems. While it caught a bunch of registry errors the one which disables Creator 10 did not appear and I looked hard for it not wanting to do another clean install. In fact this cleaner did a much better job of registry cleaning.

Thanks for letting us know. :D

There will always br Norton lovers and believe that it can do no wrong and are unwilling to do some tweaking of the registry cleaning so this issue will pop up time and time again until Norton (and others) make a few small changes.

I have never used either of those. I did run Regclean recently.

I added the values 'fixed' by RegClean back into the registry and EMC10 will now run. Seems that EMC10 has some keys in the registry that tend to set off an alarm with registry software, as stated in this thread.

What registrey cleaning software will work with EMC10 installed?

Any of them that the user knows how to use properly. It isn't only Roxio that some folks wipe out, from not knowing how to use it properly.

Try reading everything in this thread, and the link in Post #2 of this thread, for starters. You failed to mention whether or not you have used Norton or McAfee. Ad_Aware and SpyBot don't cause the problem.

I run XP Home and am also having this issue. What should I be looking for? I use Ad_Aware and SpyBot S&D. My system is pretty solid other than this program not running.

What can I do?

But, what's very interesting is that the fix, although only temporary, in this case was installing Vista SP1 and not reinstalling EMC 10. That had been the only reported solution up to this point.

I know nothing about Vista, but the fix for the problem with Norton SystemWorks, in Windows XP, isn't temporary. NSW will ignore the registry key, unless you tell it to do otherwise.

There is NO Vista SP1!!!

There is a Beta and that means untested. If you are a tester for MS, then report the problem to them.

If you are not, you are messing with things that will lead to reformatting your HD.

You run Norton SystemWorks or McAfee. Read all about it, here:
