Error 0x80004005

lencuff

Question

Has anyone found the answer to this error please? No matter what I try, when I try to compile a DVD to a folder anywhere on my PC, I get this error message. I have tried numerous drives/folders all of which I have full access to. Running Vista Home Premium. Switched from Nero to Roxio thinking it would be better but at least NeroVision still works fine !

Lencuff,

Okay, so although you can create complete ISOs from the same source material, and you can extract the VIDEO_TS contents from the ISO to a hard drive folder without problem, the system falls off its perch the moment the Roxio program goes to create the VIDEO_TS contents to a hard drive folder. Is that right?

That's a strange one which I haven't seen reported before. There could be something wrong in your Vista, since Nero was acting strangely, or something may have broken in Easy Media Creator.

If this problem annoys you enough I'd suggest uninstalling EMC10, cleaning up, and reinstalling it since the repair option didn't help. Otherwise you can still make ISOs, and either burn from them or extract if you need access to the files.

With luck, someone reading this now we've described the problem may be able to put his/her finger straight on the cause. It's new to me.

Brendon

You can look at the contents of an ISO with utilities like IsoBuster, MagicISO, PowerISO, or WinISO, Walt.

I believe lencuff is saying that the ISO is created properly with the contents where you'd expect them, but something is preventing the creation of those contents (.vob, .ifo, .bup) if you try to just create them in folders on the hard drive.

Lencuff, if you're running one of those ISOxxx utilities, can you EXTRACT the contents from the ISO to a hard drive folder?? Will Vista let you do that?

Since you're having problems with both brands of software I'm wondering if your Vista is preventing the file creation.

That's exactly what I meant - sorry for confusion. I can extract them just fine and if I use NeroVision, that creates the folder and contects correctly. It's just this program which creates the folder and then creates the first vob file and then throws this error and stops. When I look in the folder created, the single vob file is 0 bytes so it looks like it can create the files in the folder but cannot encode the avi file for some reason using this option. Yet MyDVD works fine??

Just to make sure it isn't a Vista/permissions issue, I used Magic ISO and extracted the iso to the same folder I had tried to use to create the vob bup etc and they all extracted just fine!

Check this thread - there is some good info in it

http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?...c=26775&hl=

Also, did you check for the latest drivers for your graphics card and the latest DirectX from MS?

Checked for all the latest of everything. DirectX10 (Vista) and the latest graphics drivers. Odd thing is that it will create an iso just fine using MyDVD. It just won't create the vob files etc yet when I look in the iso it

created, the vobs and evrything alse is there fine!!Also used GSpot to confirm I had the correct codecs installed.

Quick update, MyDVD Express works fine creating an iso file to the same directory!! So it can't be a permission type problem I don't think?

Curious??? What problems were you encountering with Nero?

Under Add/Remove Programs, pick Roxio and choose the Repair option.

Main and only problem with Nero (both 7 and 8) is that when I try and create either an audio or data disk, when

I try to select the files I want to drag over, as soon as I leave the root directory of the drive (any drive), I get a message saying Nero has stopped working!

Just seems odd that I can create an iso in the same folder as I tried to create the dvd files? I've noticed that it creates a folder called My Movies, bwloe that is the VIDEO_TS as expected and inside that folder is the first vob file (empty) named VTS_01_1.VOB so it doesn't look like a permission thing at all.

I don't quite understand what you mean by "It just won't create the vob files etc yet when I look in the iso it

created, the vobs and evrything alse is there fine" What do you expect to see? If you create an iso file, you will not see any vob files, you will only see the vob files if you "open" the iso files. So everything is behaving as it should.
