NTLDR MISSING After EMC 10 Install

Ken P

Question

I followed the instructions in the article posted by John from ROXIO that copies NTLDR and NTDETECT.EXE and the entries for the BoOT.INI. But I still had the same problem. The Microsoft Knowledge Data Base has an append that says to restore the same files that John states in his article. But instead of creating a boot.ini file, MSFT says to use the BOOTCFG utility from the MSFT Operating I stall CD to rebuild the boot.ini file. After I rebuilt the boot.ini from the bootcfg utility, my problem was solved.

The question is ... why did the EMC 10 install wipe out the NT* and boot.ini files?

Who knows - the problem surfaced about a month after EMC 10 was released - it didn't show in beta or even at release.

Strange thing tho - the first reports coincided with a MS XP update.

There is a patch for the problem btw - when you install, update immediately before re-booting
