Sony handycam mpeg problem

Christian

Question

I am having a problem. I am trying to use MyDVD Express and when I try to add a movie I have imported with my handycam software (sony handycam), it gives me the message "The File you are trying to use cannot be edited, and has not been used"

The file is not read only, I checked that.

The software that came with the handycam is called Picture Motion Browser. I use mini DVDs in my handycam. I put the mini DVD in the DVD reader of the computer to import the files.

It loads each of the clips on the DVD as separate movies (mpg files) onto the hard drive. There appears to a .MOD (or .MODD ?) file present with every MPEG file.

I suppose all sony handycam users must have the same problem.

Thanks.

High fives to you and "Men". You have both provided good information for others, having the same problem, with Sony's newest proprietary format.

Continuing on with this issue...I just upgraded to 10 last night from 9 in hopes that problems would be fixed. I have a Sony HandyCam and when I try to add files to a New Project, they are .mpg files, I get the same message "can't be edited", etc. Is there anything that could work to allow me to be able to use these files? I tried downloading the link mentioned above (Super C) but in all the screens I looked at, I couldn't find a download button....any help would be aprpreciated!

Copy the contents of the miniDVD, to a folder on your hard drive. Open VideoWave, browse to that folder, and bring the files in. Capturing isn't needed at all.

Thank you for that information. I tried it out. But no success. After a full day looking around, I think I have the solution. The MPEG-2 type from the newer Sony Handycams are on the AVCHD-Standard. Roxio does not support that standard so far and it is not clear when an update is ready (according to this forum). I did a conversion with AVS4YOU (www.avs4you.com). And all the files are working just fine. However, you have to spend another $70.-- for this software if you want to work with it.

When I look in this support-forum, I find a couple of Posts with all the same problem - just discussed in a different manner. So I think it really would make sense for roxio to react on the AVCHD-Standard.

I just found another nice tool to converte the mpg-Files from my Sony Handycam to a mpg-type, which works with Video Wave. It's called Super © and it's for free. Check out http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html .

I'm still not seeing it; it is on the same page as the link takes you to? Have you also heard of these problems from Sony files?

Yes, it is on the same page as the link takes you to. I don't have any problems with my Sony files, but I have a miniDV Handycam.

What is the make and model of your Sony? Does it record to minDVD?

Hello everyone. I did not want to add the link itself because of updates from Super C that come later. I needed quite some time to find the link and I add it here:

http://download.softpedia.ro/dl/c633171b21.../SUPERsetup.exe

You have to go through about 3 or 4 pages to get to this link...

Anyhow I want to answer another question. The problem with Roxio is, that they do not support the AVCHD-Standard. But this is now pretty much the standard on all new Panasonic and Sony Cams. So the problem will get bigger in the future (for Roxio). There is another request on this website on AVCHD from netmation (http://forums.support.roxio.com/index.php?showtopic=27121&hl=avchd). There is an answer from Tom (at Roxio) who makes very clear, that Version 10 has no support for this and that Roxio has no date (!!!) when they will bring this feature.

We have now a solution but still: I think that Roxio should hurry up to bring a fix. The above metioned Thread was from September 07.

I just read today, that Sony brings 15 (!) new Cameras on the market in the next couple of months. And all of them have AVCHD-Standard.....

HELLO DEVELOPPERS AT ROXIO - WAKE UP...

Actually, I have a similar problem. I have a Sony DVD508.

After I finalize the DVD, I do get .VOB files. I can import the VOB files. However, when imported, anything that was recorded in Widescreen is now squished to 4:3.

I was hoping that the files that the Sony app created would just drop right in. But what it looks like is that any identifying attributes that normally accompany an MPEG file are missing.

Hello !

My model is handycam DCR DVD 108 NTSC.

When the mini DVD is finalized, the files on the mini DVD are .mpg and not .VOB.I verified last night. I don’t have my handycam with me right now but I guess the .VOB files could possibly be on the unfinalized DVD. Notice that I still need to use the small transfer software to get the file from the mini DVD to my computer to have the files in separate scenes.

The strange thing about my problem is that all softwares recognize the .mpg files ( codec-2) from my handycam. Roxio sees them too as mpeg-2 but doesn’t want to use them. Could I transform them in a different format ( with what ?) and try to use them with Roxio ?

I don’t want to lose hope on video editing, but I recently bought pinnacle studio and it seemed to work fine but the rendering could never be completed. I lost hours ! So I bought Roxio and you know the story…

I forgot to tell that I verified if there was any conversion option on the transfer software. There isn’t.

No, all Sony HandyCam users don't have the same problem. What model Sony HandyCam do you have? If you finalize the disc, in the HandyCam, the files should be .vob.

I have the same problem with a Sony Handycam DCR-DVD106. I can get my MPEG-Files with the Sony-Software on the computer and there are no problems with the Windows Media Player. However a can not import them into Video-Wave.

I tried to import with the Roxio Media Import Tool. But I even can't see there my Handycam (USB).

Any Ideas or solutions?

Thanx.

Try capturing importing via firewire; USB will not work.
