Strange Menu Behavior

banders100

Question

I've been using DVDit Pro HD since it was released and I find it to be superior to Encore especially CS3, but I do have a few issues with the way DVDit handles menus. For one, if my project has two menus, when I navigated through testing each link, I hit the menue button to go back to the menu and it always takes me back to the first menu page, even if I select a link on the second menu page. In other words, say I select the 3rd menu link on the second menu page, after the selection starts playing, I select menu again , but instead of going back to the link I selected, it goes back to menu 1 and highlights the 3rd link on that menu instead of the menu 2 that I was on. My other issue is with chapter links themselves. I set a link at a given point in the project and it previews fine, but after being burned to disc, the link actually starts playing about 5 seconds after the point I selected as a chapter point. I know others have discussed this problem here, but I have seen no solutions to either of the "bugs" I mentioned here. Otherwise, Mrs. Lincoln, the play was great!

couple of things here.

1) the app. doesn't support "return to last menu" so if you select a timeline from a chapters page and also have that timeline referenced on your manu menu page, we can only return to one of those menus. you can set which one you want to return to in the "menu attributes" window, but you don't have any way short of doubling up your timeline for going to both menus

2) the app. remembers the last button you were on. so yes, if you select button 3 on the chapters menu and then return to the main menu from your timeline, it will be on button 3 on that main menu. you can "set highlight" somewhere in the menu attributes, or you could route your way through a 1 second black menu with only one button on it which then has an end action of the main menu...both methods should let you come back to the main menu and have button 1 selected.

3) chapter issue we are still exploring

Thanks for the info Scott. Always grateful for your help.

Hi, we're having different strange menu behavior here -

We are building a disc with three layers of menus (main menu, sub-menu, sub-sub-menus). When we select a sub-menu option, the button highlighted will be something other than button #1, even if we specify that it should highlight button #1 when it goes to the next menu. At first we thought it was remembering the button it had been on and selecting that same number on the new menu, so we re-numbered the buttons to trick it into selecting what we wanted. That didn't work - it's selecting whatever it wants with each sub-menu, and is consistently picking that button regardless which number we give it. The strangest thing is that it behaves one (wrong) way in the playback simulator, and if we write an image file and test it with other software (PowerDVD), it picks different (and still wrong) buttons to go to. The worst part is that for one sub-menu, it jumps to an easter egg selection that's supposed to be hidden, completely defeating the purpose of having it there.

Thanks in advance for any advice you might have on this issue!
