How come Disc Copier isn't showing in the Applications window of Easy CD and DVD Burning?

goodvibes88

Question

I am trying to burn a DVD movie of some movies I've backed-up onto my harddrive but the application DVD Copier is not in the application window of Easy CD and DVD Burning when I open the program. Why isn't it there and how can I find it? When I look for the application file in the ROXIO folder of my comupter, it isn't there...

What the heck is going on with this program. Talk about frustrating. I've never seen this type of thing before. And there's no explanation for it in any of the help guides!

Please help!!!

Thanks

I don't have that version, but to find out how to copy a dvd (with whatever your version calls it) go into the Help menu, then index and type in copy or copier.

Nope, that doesn't work for me. Supposedly the program is supposed to have the application DVD Copier in its bundle but I don't see it. The box states that copying DVD-video titles requires a one-time product activation via the internet...but I registered the product and nothing has changed...

Is activating the software the same as registering it? How do you activate these applications that are supposed to be there and may be hidden. Or may not have installed when I did the 'Complete' installation of the program?

My version is 9.xx

Thanks!

The 'activation' kicks in at some stage when you actually run the program.

However, you say that you are trying to copy DVD 'titles' - if these are commercial movies, you can't copy those anyway as they are copy protected and it's illegal to even try to circumvent the protection (don't blame us - it's unfortunate, but it's the law)

Thanks for checking on that Brendon.

I was not sure the Home – Data – Data Disc would work to create a DVD Movie, but since it is based on the Sonic RecordNow rather than the Roxio Creator Classic, it seems to work…

I am not completely surprised that D2D worked for a DVD Movie. I suspect it would be limited to a select few Players… Maybe you could take the disc around your neighborhood and try it out! – I recall some CD Players were supposed to be compatible with D2D discs, but heard very little about it since it was first announced.

Let's get something straight: I'm not talking about pirating commercial movies, I'm talking about backing up MY OWN DVD movie folders to DVD discs that will play on stand alone players. They are movie folders that I created in DVD Studio Pro. So please stop moralizing, I'm not a child and you're not helping here. (Don't you think it's frustrating enough paying for a program that doesn't behave as advertised without getting someone talking self-righteous crap.)

If I wanted to rip commercial DVDs I would just use DVD Fab HD Decrypter to rip the DVD to the hard-drive as a Disc Image, then use Easy CD and DVD Burning to burn a DVD of the disc image through the Copy function. That's easy, but it's not what I'm trying to do.

What I would like to know is how Easy CD and DVD Burning is supposed to back-up DVD movie folders. I can't figure it out, even though there is mention of it being able to do this with an application called DVD Copier. Which doesn't even show up in the Home applications window.

In the application pane of the Home window, it says I have Creator Classic, Music Disc Creator, Photo Suite and Sound Editor. It is missing the applications DVD Copier and Express Labeler.

In the 'getting started guide' it mentions that DVD Copier makes back-up copies of personal DVD discs so you can store the originals for safe-keeping. I assume that it also burns DVD movie folders. But maybe I'm wrong...

It also says that 'Importing, capturing, edting, copying, BURNING, exporting, or viewing mpeg-2 files, DVD-VIDEO TITLES, or HD-V video, and burning of DVD or SVCD discs requires a one-time product activation on the Internet.' So it seems that this program can do what I'm asking. If not, Roxio is falsely advertising this product...

(When is this activation done? When I registered the product? Or is it something I further have to do?)

So does anybody know how to make this work? I feel like with our collective brain power we should be able to solve this problem, if not burn toast...

I'm using version 9.0.554

Thanks!

Oh, yeah, one more thing. I had a mac last year that I used to burn my DVD movie folders with ROXIO TOAST 7. There a function in the Data burning pane where you can drag and drop the movie folder to this pane and it will be burned as a DVD-ROM (UDF) which plays in stand-alone DVD players. Isn't there a similar thing with Easy CD and DVD Burning?

One thread on the same thing is more than enough...

I drew you a picture of where it is, can't make it any easier than that...

However! I cannot test this any farther as the PC I have this on, does not have a Burner and it is will not proceed beyond letting me place the DVD into the DVD-ROM.

According to information from John at Roxio, DVD Copier isn't included in Easy CD & DVD Burning.

Remember, this is a $30 cut-down of a $100 program.

OK, thanks James, I'll try that out. Much appreciated!

One little question, for a DVD-ROM (UDF) setting, is this done after the disc is burned, in the eject settings, or is there a pre-burn setting I'm not seeing?

The mac ROXIO Toast 7 I was using had a pre-burn setting....

Thanks for your help!!!

Toast is a MAC product. There is absolutely nothing similar…

I have no idea as to the Settings (that is what I wanted to test!) RecordNow was always a more robust application than Roxio, so I am hoping it will look at the source and set the destination to match!!!

(If you are referring to using 'plus' media and setting it to DVD-ROM, that is not done within the program. That requires a utility, usually from the manufacture, to alter the way the bitsetting is handled by the burner firmware.)

I suggest you use RW media and please let us know how it works out! Only one other Guru here that I know of has a copy of the Red Box, but he is in New Zealand and it is past his bed time…

Goodvibes88,

Sorry I'm late to the party Jim has explained why

Roxio Easy CD and DVD Burning does not have the Roxio Disc Copier application, but Lyn didn't mention it has Sonic's Copy Disc Project. It will copy these types of DVD and a whole slew of CD types [but not a packet-written CD made with Drag to Disc or DLA] The help system is context-sensitive, so if you go to Help when in Disc Copy Project you'll automatically get the help for that application.

As Jim Hardin said, it is accessed through the home menu, and it's really just a follow-your-nose matter from there. Since it's a copier, any booktype settings are up to your burner rather than this software if you're using DVD+ discs.

Caveat: To copy a DVD with a single optical drive you must have enough free space on your C: drive to cache the disc. The temporary file is stored as a .GI in

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp and I haven't discovered a way to change that yet.

If you don't have enough room on your home drive, use the 'Save Image' and 'Burn image' buttons to cache the disc to a file on another drive.

If there's anything else we can help with, please holler. Nothing beats actually doing it hands-on.

Best regards,

Brendon

Well, thanks for all the advice!

I think I found the solution to the problem of trying to burn a movie DVD from a DVD folder (containing the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders).

James was right: drag the audio_TS and video_TS folders into the 'Data Disc' pane of the DATA window. Name the volume folder the same name as the original movie folder name (for ex. "DEMO_MOVIE"). Then burn the film.

The program seems to know automatically to format the disc in UDF, so it will play on stand alone players and computers. You don't have to worry about it.

So thanks, guys, for all your help!!

Happy burning! Cheers!

Glad to hear that one works for you. It works in all my set-top players, but it doesn't work in a lot of the old ones. Mine will play data discs with AVIs and stuff, or the VOB/IFO/BUP set in a VIDEO_TS folder, and I've just been watching on my tv a DVD recorded with Drag to Disc.

But these solutions don't work for everyone, and people with older set top players will need an application which can write a DVD video compliant disc from a DVD folder. Roxio Disc Copier will do that, but Sonic Copy Disc won't. :(

Best regards,

Brendon
