Burning Issue with Copy Burn Image

Rick55

Question

Although the Tools shows the correct amount of free space on the blank DVD at 4.4G when I click on Copy,Burn Image; the free space as show in the bottom left corner changes to 1.5G. If I click the burn button thet tray opens and the program asks for a Blank CD! I put in a blank CD to see what happens and it recongized the CD but naturally said, not enough space on disk. Insert 2.9G disk. It will burn the very same blank DVD if I use the DATA copy but does not seem to recognize the blank DVD when it is in the COPY,BURN IMAGE mode! I have done a clean install and that fixes the problem temporarily. After several successful burns the COPY,IMAGE BURN once again starts spitting out blank DVD's and asking for a blank CD? It appears that something in the program is being corrupted but I can't find a way to troubleshoot this problem.

I can barely understand it!

There are 35 individual programs in the V9 Suite. Start by telling us which specific program you are using…

Then tell us more about this 'file' you are trying to burn… Where did it come from?

Using the Disc and Device Utility, tell us the specific Make/Model of your burner and the current firmware.

Also what kind of discs are you using?

I will try to be very specific. The Program main page says Roxio Creator Basic V9. The main page has 8 Sub programs, Home,Audio,Backup,Copy,Data,Photo,Video,Tools.

I am specfically addressing the Program called COPY. It has a dropdown menu with Copy Guide,Copy Disc.Burn Image,Save Image,Upgrade. I am specifically addressing BURN IMAGE. This is the only section of the Roxio Creator Basic V9 suite which does not work! Specifically it fails to correctly recognize a blank DVD. Any blank DVD. The latest driver upgrades have been installed for the Driver which works fine in every other program of the V9 Suite. The driver and DVD hardware ARE NOT THE PROBLEM. The problem is with the Roxio program. If a clean install is made, the new install works fine for awhile but then reverts to the original problem of not recognizing a blank DVD in the COPY,BURN IMAGE portion of the V9 suite.

The file to be burnt is a non issue. We are not talking about the file. We are talking about the program calling for a blank DVD but not recognizing the blank DVD when it is inserted. Meanwhile the rest of the V9 suite has no trouble recognizing the very same blank DVD. This suggests that something is corrupt in the BURN IMAGE part of the Roxio V9 suite!

What you have is an OEM supplied version, not a full fledged Purchased Retail version…

However I doubt that they have ordered that portion to be disabled.

You never did supply the make/model and firmware version that I asked for…

1 of 2 things is happening here.

The ISO file you don't think is "un-important" is corrupt or written in a manner that cannot be understood by the software. (happens all of the time as not all ISO files are equal!)

Or the software is receiving bad information from the drive, it doesn't make up error messages by itself.

But if you still think it all the software's fault, go to your OEM supplier for support.

Well I DO beleive that your software is making up an error message. The ISO file is NOT corrupt. It burns just fine with Roxio after reloading the program. Also burns just fine with another DVD burner program.

The same Drive works fine with another DVD Burner program and with other parts of the Creater 9 program. In fact with a clean reload of the Creater 9 program it burns the file with no problems. If I find an answer to the problem I will let you know. Thanks for help.

Same *exact* issue for me; and as I see from a check of the forum and google, this is a problem for many others as well. There's clearly a bug in the "burn image" pgm in the calc of free space avail on the disc, given that the tools->disc info has no problems seeing exactly what's inserted.

So, rather than ask what color the dvd package was before addressing the issue, can anyone actually answer the question/problem? Does the Sonic support group have an answer to this problem? And yes, I understand verison info is crucial to problem idfentification. However, if something is a recognized issue a great first rsponse is... gee, that sounds like problem XYZ fixed in v9.0.1.3.4.5.6 check your version and download the patch from here. etc.

First, it's not "our" software, as we are just fellow users here. The only Roxio/Sonic people on here are the few moderators who post "on occasion", no tech support people. They are designated by a Roxio logo next to their name.

If it works fine when you re-install the program, then "suddenly" quits working at some point, then I would suspect something on your system is making changes that are causing it. It could be something like a registry cleaner (like Norton One Button) that's changing/deleting something for example. What you need to do is figure out what may have been added, updated, or modified (by some system maint program) between the time it worked and the time it stopped.

Don't know that anyone here knows what the "exact" problem is. It doesn't happen to everyone.

Since you "me too'd" in the EMC 9 area, there is no "patch" that will fix this for anyone who may be experiencing it in this version.

If you want to know if the Sonic/Roxio support group has any info on it, you'll need to contact them (this being just a user forum). Click on the support link at the top right, then either log a ticket with them, or try their live chat options. Of course, they'll need to know what version of what program you actually have before they can really reply with any information.
