No audio when burning AVI with AC3

Whenever I burn an AVI with AC3 audio to DVD (using the DVD-Video pane), the DVD has no audio. I'm using a PowerMac G5 with Leopard and the latest AC3 codec for Quicktime, and the audio is fine when I play these AVIs in Quicktime. I have version 8.0.3 of Toast, but it seems that Toast doesn't use the Quicktime codecs, so does that mean that Toast doesn't support AC3?

I tried converting the AVIs with MPEGStreamClip to Quicktime files (.mov) with either uncompressed or MPEG-2 audio, but then I end up with frequent loud pops on the audio track.

Any solutions? Thanks for responding.
