tomg1
I use Backup MyPc v5.0. Can a DR set be created so that a full recovery can be made from either a file or a USB hard disk drive? When creating the DR set it always lists the backup media only as the CD/DVD drive.
marlinsinger
To my knowledge, no. One thing you have to remember is that the backup location has to be accessible from a minimal system (No OS). That means minimal drivers. CD/DVD are pretty much always there, where things like USB, Firewire, E-SATA may not be be. At least not until you get OS and drivers installed. tomg1
Then how about if I create a CD/DVD with just Windows and then do a complete restore from the hard disk after? The intention of the full restore would be to restore all the other software (including links to the OS) and the registry. This process may also have the same problem: once Windows is overwritten the USB hard drive will become unusable. The goal is to do a full restore without having to use numerous CDs/DVDs. marlinsinger
DR does not allow you to just select Windows to back up. To get what you want, I suggest you do a regular full backup of your hard drive, backing up everything including system state. Then If you run into a problem, install Windows, install BUMP, then do a full restore overwriting everything. That will limit what you have to reinstall.
