Your drive specs seem fine - were you ever able to burn to an optical disc??

btw - one thing I saw in the specs concerns the ribbon cable - are you using an 80 wire or a 40 wire one?

"DVD-R (Ver 2.0 & 2.1 for General disc only), DVD-R DL (Dual Layer, Ver 3.0), DVD-RW (Ver 1.0, 1.1 & 1.2) , +R (Ver 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 & 1.3), +R DL (Double Layer Ver 1.0 & 1.1), +RW (Ver 1.1, 1.2 & 1.3), +RW High Speed (Ver 1.0).

CD-R (Type 74, 650MB & Type 80, 700MB), CD-RW (including HS, US, US+)!"

*It is required to use a cable corresponding to U-ATA66 (80-wire conductor cable).

I have used it to burn audio cds and have burned slideshows off other slideshow software only they were trial software. I brought CD DVD Roxio in hopes I could burn projects that did not limit the # of photos as a other trial versions did. I do not know about the 40 wire and 80 wire that is something I`m not famaliar with..Does this have to do with what type cable is used from the writer to the mootherboard? I just looked at the cable on the back of the writer, looks like its a 40 wire ribbon cable if thats what your refering too... If so where do I get a 80 and how do I know if my MB acceptsa 80...thanks
