Restoring Spanned File

camtnbiker

Question

I am trying to restore a backup of a 6.5Gb file, which has been spanned over 2 4.7Gb DVDs. I've tried using the roxio restore application on the disk, but nothing happens. I also tried using the Terminal CAM instruction, but was unsuccessful. Can you give me detailed instructions on how to put the file back together?

Thanks.

I have a similar problem with the spanning on Toast 8.3. The individual image files are often split between 2 DVDs . I also need to know how to stitch them back together. These are important Photo archive files in raw tiff or psd format.I have submitted a ticket to this effect. Will let you know if Roxio has an answer.Cheers

I have just succeeded in restoring my split file. If you insert the disc click on the file that was split (labeled file name 1-2) and wait choose Roxio restore choose a destination folder desktop restore spanned file, then you are prompted to put in the next disc wait for a bit and then you are asked to put in the first disc again and finally you get the message file bla restore successful, the selected items have been copied to your destination. It is very long winded and would be so much easier if in preferences you could select do no truncate files. Its not as if the total file size was anything close to filling both DVDs there was plenty of pace to leave an empty space at the end of disc 1. Its also alarming to have one image split. Toast can put the two halves together but why split them in the first place?

I have just heard from Roxio support who say that you cannot turn off file splitting. They say " Here's some information regarding the disc creation:

-Application Bundles are not split when below 20MB

-Files are not split under 10MB

-Files are not split at the end of a disc when they take up less than 5% of the disc's space"

This is of no help to professional photographers as most of their files are greater than 10mb.

When booting the disc in photoshop browser the split image does not show up because the application cannot read half a file.

If anyone finds a work around please let me know- bay@bayhippisley.com
