analog to digital conversion box

Question

I just purchased Creator 10 and I'm trying to take some old video tapes and put them on the computer, edit and burn as DVDs. I have a VHS video recorder plugged into a Sony media conversion box and a firewire to the computer. I open up My DVD using sonic solution on the Creator 10. I click on the left side "Capture/Import." It sees that I am using the Sony box and when I start the video, the image comes into the viewing box on the left half of the screen , but the control buttons underneath that screen ( stop, play, rewind, fast forward) are not activated and in the large box on the right half of the screen "Recently Imported" the only thing there is, "There are no items to show in this view." Last year when I purchased my Dell computer, there was some Roxio software already loaded, and if I use the old software: My DVD LE 6.1 software, I can capture the video image, edit it, etc. But I just purchased Creator 10 and I would assume this is better software and would (perhaps) capture a better video image and allow me to edit with more and better functions. How can I capture the video image and edit it using Creator 10?

I don't know if capture will work with your setup. Did you pick a location and file name, in the boxes below? You have to fill them in before any buttons will be activated.

The DA1 is not a Firewire device like a camcorder! – for the price it should come with a PC included…

It cannot be controlled by any capture software so you simply hook it up, select Capture and start playing your DA1.

Here is review of it (7 years old).

Thanks for responding to my question about the DA1 box. The review you sent me is exactly like the box I have. As I am quite new to using Creator 10 and digital editing, etc. I'm not sure I understand completely your response. If you mean that the moment I turn on the DA1 and press play on the recorder, software should come up automatically. Well, the activation of the DA1 does activate software in the computer, but it is the old 6.1 version of Creator (pre-installed on my computer) and not my new Creator 10 version just recently purchased. Somehow, I want to tell it to activate the Creator 10 software and not the old version. Any suggestions?

Do you understand this response to my question from another contributor?

My guess is that the MyDVD LE software was bundled with the device and is the only software that can work with it.

You have tired to use EMC 10 and it doesn’t work. There is nothing I could find to indicate that this was ever a Window Compliant device!

I use an external A/D box and plug in a DVD Player or a VHS Player or a LaserDisc Player or anything I want. NONE can be controlled by the PC and have to press their Play button and click on Capture in the Capture program.

If a digital video/audio signal is being passed along a Firewire, it will capture. But it can only control a Windows Compliant device with a Firewire…
