Converting files and importing into iMovie

mpverr

Question

I just purchased Popcorn 3.02 as everyone said to buy it. I downloaded from my ReplayTV unit an episode of Family Guy (mpeg 2 format). I used popcorn to convert it to mpeg 4. I can then watch it using quick time, but it will not let me import the mpeg 4 into iMove. I'm running 10.5.1 Mac OS X.

Apple said the file must be in an editable? format for iMovie to import it. I'm able to use Pinnacle on my PC and import the same file without a problem. Any suggestions?

ps i also tried to convert the file to hd264 and that didn't help either.

thanks!

I looked into this issue recently and found that these MPEG 4 files do import into iMovie HD but not into the new iMovie. I don't know why that is or what can be done about it. Hopefully Roxio's engineers are working on a fix.

Meanwhile, you can get iMovie HD for free from Apple and use it for this purpose. That version is so different from the current one it is like having two movie making applications that serve different purposes. I like them both.
