Can't install EMC10 to Vista Machine

I'm thinking I should have read these forums before I purchased Roxio EMC 10 - I'm also having issues. I downloaded the software (and it took FOREVER). When I run the .exe file, everything kicks off fine, but when it tries to run the NAV10ESD.exe file (which is apparently a Norton 2004 (if you can believe it) installation assistant, I get a Vista error "program blockded due to compatability issues". So I'm stuck.

 

I also had a heck of a time just trying to log in to get at the customer support page to log a ticket. Judging from the other complaints here (and not many compliments), am I better off to go find some software that actually works?

Thanks gi7omy and myguggi for your input! I finally extracted all the files manually using Winzip and successfully ran the setup.exe file to install the program. That NAV10ESD.exe file that was causing problems is actually part of the downloaded zip archive for Roxio EMC10 (why, I don't know!) - once I bypassed it by manually unzipping the files and running the setup.exe, it installed smoothly. I had to manually extract and run the Content CD as well, but it appears that everything is installed and running properly (although I haven't had a chance to use it in-depth just yet).

A bigger question is, was it downloaded from the Roxio site?

I just download EMC 10 from Roxio site and i am having exactly the same problem. The setup starts, extracts the files then begins downloading a 44meg Norton file, which over my dial up connection is a real pain, which will not run on Vista. Whatever the problem is, it stll exists as of Jan 15th 2008 in the download version.

There's no 'NAV*.*' file anywhere in the suite so that makes me wonder what's happening. Did you install an older version of Norton at any stage?

 

Also, try extracting the contents of the two downloads (to two separate folders) by using Winrar or Winzip (the files are self-extracting archives) and run setup.exe from there, starting with suite

 

During the install, turn EVERY running app off including spyware, bit defender, AV, etc

 

Let us know if that works or not

NAV10ESD.exe is part of the Norton Anti-Virus 2004 package and has nothing to do with Roxio. I doubt very much that the 2004 Norton AV program will even work with VISTA.
