Installation Interrupted EMC 10

MDJR

Question

I am new to this forum and I am looking for some help. I've read the postings and tried the fixes but I still un-able to install EMC 10 from the box. The installation begins than 2 minutes into to it the computer says Roxio Easy Media Creator Wizard was interuppted. I've cleaned everything, downloaded CCLEANER and ran that, shut off anti-virus, removed any traces over version 9 DVD Builder, and un-installed almost everything from my computer. I'm looking for help, please send me suggestions if you have any as this is un-returnable and I would like to use it. I'm running a Dell Dimension 4700 Pentium 4 with 2.5GB of RAM, and about 35GB of free space on my hard drive.

Mike,

I don't have a solution but you may be happy to know that you are not alone with this problem. A tech support person took the time to walk through a ton of clean up actions including registry edits. I mean we stripped the system of anything that could have been the source of the problem but no luck.

My Roxio 9 loads fine and I was able to load Roxio 10 on an older computer. So there is something in our software or hardware that is causing this premature install termination.

Hopefully tech support will continue to work with us on this as I am doing a review and will making a presentation to our local computer group on Roxio 10. Having this problem hanging around sure won't help the review.

You all are really scaring me with all of these installation problems! I delayed purchasing Creator 10 until yesterday. I purchased it from Best Buy, but I have not opened the box yet. I have been ignoring the emails from Roxio about downloading it, because I went through that NIGHTMARE with Creator 9--NEVER AGAIN! Creator 9 was a waste of money for me--purchased in April 2007--because most of it is NOT compatible with VISTA even though Roxio advertised it to be. I will keep checking this board BEFORE I decide whether or not to open the box, because as you all know once the box is opened it is not returnable. I would welcome any encouragement--if not, I will take it back to Best Buy.

Thanks!

I also installed it successfully on an older computer but I want it on my primary system. So there are some conditions (software or possibly hardware) that is causing problems for people. Tech support needs to work with those people to get to the root of the problem.

What bothers me is with tech support help we uninstalled and also manually deleted all possible software that could conflict. We deleted many registry entries, deleted several folders, disabled all antivirus and firewalls, ran a few cleanup utilities, disabled all unecessary startup programs and rebooted several times. Nothing helped so I am at a loss and I believe the support staff is also since they have not responded with additional help.

I think many of the problems may have to do with VISTA rather than XP. I have VISTA, and I know there are many conflicts with other software.

I still plan to take the Creator 10 back to the store. I detest the "clean install" and it gives me heartburn to even think about messing with the registry, etc. I want software that will install just by inserting the DVD or CD into my DVD drive. I don't understand WHY Roxio can't make it work.

My personal experience has been much better with Vista than XP recently (regarding installs). I've never had a problem installing on Vista which I cannot say for XP.

The info posted on how to do a clean install is detailed and relatively easy as long as you pay attention to what you're doing. Of course it's always best to make a backup but many have done these clean installs with no problems.

Thanks for all your input everyone. Hopefully Roxio can resolve this issue, so far they haven't been able to help sucessfully. Also as of last night I am now receiving "missing NTLDR file" which I have had to boot from a disk three times. My computer is worse off than before I started all of this in the first place. I'm getting tired of all this.

I also have conflicts trying to run office 2007 on Windows 98SE. Doesn't work for some reason? :) However, EMC10 runs like clockwork on my Q6600 self built system, Radeon1950 Pro, 2GB Geil DDR2 Memory with Vista installed.

I also got the message about the installation being interupted until I realised each application was waiting for a user input before proceeding which means sitting through the whole install.

It's strange how my old software has problems with Vista, you'd think Lotus Smart Suite from 1997 would work with anything? It did in the past? :)

I have tried installing 6 times now, even on a clean build machine which exceeds the minimum requirements running xp pro sp1 and sp2, and always get the same "installation interrupted" and it is doing my head in!

I have read all the articles in the forum about it and tried every solution and it keeps failing.

I have asked for a refund!

Well I am happy to say that I have been able to install this program fully, at last. Only took about 20 hours of messing with my computer that ultimately ended in my doing a complete re-install of windows after formatting my C: drive. I installed nothing but Windows and Roxio and it worked fine. Granted I have not used the program yet but it seemed to open fine and was accessible. I am hoping this will be the end to my problem but I'm just not that optimistic at this point. I also downloaded the update (which took almost 6 hours on my slow DSL) and re-booted. Everything seemed ok so far, at least till I begin re-installing all the components I lost on the formatting of the C: drive. If any one else is having problems I can honestly say I wish I did this from the beginning. Although it took some time to back-up all my files on the C: first, apparently this is what it took. Good luck to all of you still trying to get this to install, I know it can be frustrating. Hopefully it will operate properly, I'm going to try it tonight and will keep you all posted. Also, thanks for all your suggestions and feedback!

I kind of figured the final solution would be to do a complete system rebuild. While I have done this several times in the past I sure don't look forward to the time and frustrations involved. I temporarilay installed version 9 back on until I can find a full day to do the rebuild task.

Just make sure to back everything up first including all the necessary drivers if you don't have a driver disk. It took a long time (including the 89 widows updates) but I guess it was worth it.

I could not install from disc. Process was always interrupted. Here's what worked for me:

1. copy all files to hard drive

2. install from hard drive

DON'T ASK ME WHY?

In case it helps someone else, I want to let everyone know the resolution to my installation problem. I was attempting to upgrade from version 9 to version 10. The installation would only progress for about 60 seconds before bombing out. I worked with Roxio support for hours. They took me through the steps I see so often in these folders - uninstall everything, physically remove the folders from your computer, go in to the registry and remove everything, and download cleaning utility. They finally threw up their hands and told me I just had to reformat my machine. Not an option.

I continued to search on the internet and several weeks later finally found the solution. I had a file called Program in my c:/ directory. As it turns out, that was confusing the installer - it couldn't tell the difference between a zero length filed called Program and the directory c:/Program Files. As soon as I deleted that file, the install worked perfectly.
