Easy Media Creator 10 will not launch

Coni

Question

I hope someone can help me with this problem because I'm about ready to scream!

I wasted much productive time and money trying to get Easy Media Creator 10 to launch. It only opened once and that was upon the initial installation. Thereafter, nothing.

I contacted Support three times, follow their directions, and still nothing helped.

I disabled all startup programs, etc, and still nothing.

I twice made a clean reinstall, and one Change via Add/Remove Programs (which reinstalled the program again!) with the same dismal results.

My Operating System is Windows XP Home Edition

HP Media Center Computer

Norton System Works 2006

GoldWave Software

MS Works

Please help me solve this dilemma. Thank you.

Did you remember to turn off the F-Secure software before installing?

Hi Bruce,

I went a week of no problems, now I try to launch EMC 10 and it's not happening again.

I see that registry cleaners (Windows Live) are suspects now too!

A clean install is a 3 hour project for me. Antivirus was off the last time for sure.

I really do not want to do this clean install thing every week.

Again, I'm all ears!! :(

It appears I am not the only one with Easy Media Creator 10 failing.

I have a new HP with Dual Quad core 6600 processors and 3 gig of memory running Vista.

I am running McAfee 2007.

The first couple of weeks Easy Media Creator 10 Suite worked great now I am into the 4th reinstall from Roxio Upgrade. After each reinstall it works great for a couple of days and then fails again. I am going to attempt to return this software to Best Buy and look for something else. Roxio has dropped the ball on this one and have turned many of their loyal customers into customers for other suppliers.

I found this article in PC Magazine.

Read the ratings!

http://A Possible Explaination??

The rating below may be the smoking gun.

I am a relatively savvy user.. wish I would have researched user opinions before buying this package from my warehouse membership store or from anyone for that matter! Replacing EMC9, installation was difficult to complete as the wizard did not successfully uninstall certain modules (update manager) of the previous program. After installation finished, program suite would not launch from desktop icon or individual program listings. Contacted Roxio support via email.. solution provided was a tedious, time-comsuming complete "clean install procedure" not for the faint of heart. It did seem to work allowing me to launch the program - once. I use Norton Systemworks and always run One Button Checkup (OBC) to keep the PC humming. OBC corrected registry "problems" and once again, EMC10 will not work! Online chat reveals that I will need to reinstall EMC10 every time after using OBC!! "OBC removes a registry key that EMC10 needs to function - we are working on a patch" If I could, I would return for a refund, as it is, I will refrain from using until they make it work correctly. Look at the forum comments at http://forums.support.roxio.com/ before taking this plunge!

I want that patch now!!!

Do a search in the EMC 10 forum on "McAfee" and you will see that it may not be Roxio that dropped the ball but McAfee which may be deleting Roxio entries from the registry

I am having the smae problem with EMC 10 not loading after a week. I have WinXp Home/sp2 and am running Norton system works 2004. My PC is preasrio SR1230NX with 1 g ranm. I've read the threads on how to fix the problem but have not gotten a precise handle on what I need to do to fix the problem. I've been dealing with tech spport and cannot believe that they have NOT mentioned the information contained in this thread!!!!

Would someone give me a list of steps I can take that would allow me to retain what little sanity I have left?

I Have the same issue after 4 CLEAN INSTALLS, Easy Media Creator 10 will not launch!!

We can't blame Norton or McAffre because I'm on a trial of F-Secure Evaluation Software now.\

I have had Roxio for years, but I cannot put up with this issue.

As you can see below my Desktop is built to be a high performance PC.

Can anybody help me fix the "launch once" issue please??

I'm not too sure Bruce, but I might have..

Well, I guess I'll try a clean install again and make sure F-Secure IS off!

Thanks.

John S.

I'll let you know by Saturday 1/19/2008 if this was helpful.

I am having this same problem except,(1)I am running Vista Basic-1.6GH Celeron, 1GB memory, and (2) I'm and using Norton 360. Now Norton 360 has PC Tuneup, but it's kind of difficult to navigate through. Most of the application is automatic and don't give alot of options to change. Is there anyone out there, having this problem?

Are McAfee or Roxio/Sonic making any effort to resolve this issue? I simply cannot ask my clients to do registry edits. And I am NOT inclined to go to each of my clients to do do it either. MUCH easier to switch to a more well behaved burning package. What do you say Sonic? Is there a fix coming soon? (And I mean REAL soon!) Or do we have to switch to a different product to include/reccommend on systems we build? Perhaps from a certain fiddler who played while a certain city burned?

Clients come to us for the increased reliability and better support our systems offer, than those that come from Round Rock, Texas.

We will do what is needed to keep it that way.

This isn't Roxio/Sonic tech support. This is a users forum. If you want to contact them directly, click on the Support logo, in the upper right portion of your screen.

Your Norton SystemWorks killed EMC 10. Read the thread that I link to, in my first post, in the following thread, then read my second post in the following thread to keep it from happening again, after you do a clean install of EMC 10.

There is a known bug (had the same one with v. 9) and Norton SystemWorks. If you install Creator 10 and run the One Step Update in Norton it disables the launch of your Roxio product. I have the same issue, and have contacted support. As always ... I was told "we are aware of the issue and are working on a solution". Once again they have launched a product with a known problem! We can stop running Norton or reinstall v. 9.0 until the fix is released?

Coni, would like to know if you got an answer to your question. I've been having the same problem. The program worked fine until around Dec. 22. I followed instruction from Roxanne and it worked for a little while. Now the program will not open again. It will not open from anywhere. If you get any kind of answer please let me know.

My OS is XP Home

Dell Media Center

I use Mcafee Security Center 2007

MS Office 2003

grandpabruce: After my 6th clean install, I disabled OBC and ignored the active Xs as you said and all is working well so far. I will be aprehensive until I've gon a week or so without a crash, but EMC10 is running fine. Thanks for the help!!!!

You are welcome. Now, read post #93, in the following thread. The registry key listed, in that post, is the one you don't want to delete. I ran Norton WinDoctor. When it got done, and gave the repair problems screen, I right clicked, had it show me the problem details. I then scrolled down and found that registry key, in one of the problems. I then right clicked on that separate problem, and selected ignore. I then got rid of the other problems, and now, Norton does not delete that key when I run WinDoctor, again.

I never use OBC, but if you go through the WinDoctor process, I believe that OBC ignores it too.

Here is the thread that I was talking about, earlier, in this post:

McAfee killed it. Did you read Post #4 of this thread?

BTW, Coni's problem was solved, but she was using Norton SystemWorks.

You are of course correct Grandpabruce, just hoping Roxio reads their own forums....lol

By the way, in 1970-71 if you were within 13 miles of the coast, there's a good chance I provided you with some Naval Gunfire Support.

I dreaded the phrase "Danger Close"

Thanks for all the help on these forums, and a belated Welcome Home!

Thanks, and a belated welcome home to you, too. I was down in the Mekong Delta.

Once in awhile, a Roxio person drops in and answers some post, but if you want to get to them a bit faster, it is better to contact them directly. Then again, that might not be so fast. :)
