VideoWave Audio Problems

Dan Ledbetter

Question

In VideoWave, I created a slideshow with an audio track. The audio track will not work. There is a brief moment of static then all is silent. Moreover, when I attempt to play the audio track in VWave, it renders all audio in other programs mute. Consequently, I am forced to restart the computer, after which audio is restored. If I attempt to run the audio track in VWave, the cycle begins again. Please advise.

What is the origin of the audio file? What format is it? Clear your proxy files. If EMC 8 is like EMC 9, it is under Tools/Options.

I attempted with two different audio tracks to see if the file of first choice was corrupted. The file of first choice is an MP3 obtained from a royalty free site. The second file, also an MP3, simply added to the track for test purposes, was obtained from a store-bought CD.

I cleared the Proxy Files.

I have EMC 9.

By the way, after the computer was restarted and audio was, consequently, working again in other apps, I launched another EMC 9 program, Sound Editor, and the audio track(s) works fine. It is when I to run a track in VideoWave that all audio, in all programs, is rendered mute.

Update the drivers for your audio card/chip from the manufacturer's web site. Turn down the audio acceleration of the card/chip by using dxdiag and then selecting the Sound tab. Turn it all the way down and try again. If you works, you can go back up a step or two.

One more trouble shooting thing. Rip a audio file from the CD to your computer as a wav file. Add the wave file to the slide show. If that works, use Sound Editor to change the original mp3 to a wav file and use that.

All mp3 files are not the same bit rate, compression etc. There may be some preset that is causing the problem. If the original mp3 file was from an on-line store, it won't work because of DRM protection.
