Question

After inserting a new DVD+R into a Sony DRU-820A DVD burner Backup MyPC tries to format and verify but then says "This media is write-protected. Remove the write protection or insert another mediato continue." I have tried three different DVDs and all give the same message. What is the problem and how can I resolve it?

1. Have you ever used Backup MyPC with this burner before?

2. Have you tried different brands of media?

3. Have you checked for firmware updates to the drive?

4. Have you tried the PX engine update?

http://docs.sonic.com/support/px/pxengine2_08_40d.exe

That version of BUMP came out long before the 820 came out. I would go down the list starting with # 2 and try each one before going to the next.

1. Successfully used these same Imation DVD+R on this same burner to record videos but not BUMP.

2. Just tried Frys DVD-R with BUMP and it worked fine.

3. There are no firmware updates for this burner.

4. Loaded the PX engine update but no change with the Imation DVD+R.

This looks like a BUMP issue with the Imation DVD+R (DRU-820A data sheet say it supports DVD+R). Any other thoughts?

Not sure why it does not like the Imation, although I have always heard to stay away from them.

There is a firmware update to 1.0c assuming you do not already have it.

I have used the 820A in the past with no problems, but always used Verbatim or TY discs. +R or -R with no problems.

Hi Guys,

I don't know why BUMP is barfing on DVD+Rs, but I use Imations quite a bit. They're made by CMC Magnetics, and they are quite a good middle-value disc. By all means though, try another brand of DVD+R and see if it's the 'plus' that BUMP doesn't like, or the Imations, and do let us know how it goes please.

Regards,

Brendon
