Is DL only for video...help?

Hello all,

 

I bought some Dual Layer discs to try out on my new MacBook Pro and toast. I figured that I could use the dual layer advantage for data also but toast says that an 8.2 gig folder requires 2 DL discs.

 

(I do have a DL burner, just incase you want to ask)

 

Have I done something wrong? Or is the DL technology only for video or something?

an 8.2 gig folder requires 2 DL discs.

When they sell you an 8.5 GB disc, they mean ~8,500,000,000 bytes.

Toast's Recorder > Disc Info command will give you the numbers for a disc in GB (w/ two decimals accuracy).

8,500,000,000 bytes = 8,106 MB = 7.916 GB, as there are 1024 bytes in a kilobyte.
