You mentioned the AVS Video Tools in that thread.

Being a little cheap I find it hard to believe that I would have to buy an additional $40 of software to make my 'great camcorder' work…

The docking station appears to have Firewire output, so capture would be easy. Likewise the mod files can be transferred to your PC with USB2.

Why not just use the PowerProducer3 or PowerDirector5 software that is included with the camera to make the conversions? It was designed and included with the camcorder to make it work. Why reinvent the wheel?

I have tried the softwqare that came with the camera. I have even downloaded as a trial the Producer 6 version. Either I am doing something wrong but to just compile the data file can take 3-6 hours to get ready to burn and then my computer seems to lock up and does not burn the image. I have over 20 gig of excess memory on the hard drive and 1.5 gig of operating memory.

I'm sure you think that 20GB is a lot of hard drive, but when dealing with video, it isn't. My daughter and my nephew have JVC Everio camcorders. If you shoot widescreen, you have NO CHOICE, but to use the Cyberlink software that came with it. It's the only software that I have seen that will properly save the .MOD to widescreen MPEG files.

If you didn't shoot widescreen, Videowave 10 can handle the files fine, butyou will need to change the extension from .mod to .mpg.
