ECM 10 burning problem

pbud

Question

I'm new to this program and not well versed. Trying to burn a movie on My DVD Express.. settings are disc size 4.7 GB used 29.8 GB free 4670.2 GB quality fit to disc. I "add new movie" (average length movie) with no problem but at that point I no longer have enough available space and cannot burn. Is there any way to clear the space available. I read on other items that time is the factor and not space but without enough space the burn button doesn't function. This may be a simple thing but I'll take my chances on looking foolish. Any suggestions???

The movie is under two hours downloaded from BitComet. I previewed it after I clicked "Add New Movie" and it works fine.

pbud,

If you downloaded your movie with BitComet, is it an AVI file?

MyDVD Express is obviously not having trouble decoding it, or you wouldn't be able to preview it, so there's likely to be no problem with the actual download. The trouble seems to be that "Fit to disc" isn't working properly for you. MyDVD Express wants to code for a DL disc, and you have a single layer disc. It's a problem with MyDVD Express, and not the program you used to download the movie.

Try toggling the settings for disc size and quality back and forth, and see if you can get it to where the bottom settings show something like this -a disc size of 4.7GB, Used=a little less than 4.7GB, and Quality=Fit to Disc. The green quality bar will probably be down around LP, and the orange 'used' bar should not show any red.

Thanks for you help. Everything is working as you described it at the moment but there were times when I had a small portion of the orange used bar showing red. I can now burn but the encoding screen again has coloured vertical lines in the center of it while the movie is playing. I did manage to burn a movie before with those lines in it and they showed up on the final product. Those lines weren't there when I previewed the movie. I have a back up disc for EMC so I removed all the files and reloaded them with no change. As you said, if the preview is good then the problem is not with the download. Hopefully this is a quality product. I should add that I can burn on a data disc with no problem and no lines in the screen.

Okay, the size problem has subsided for the moment, that's good. I see the misbehaving Invision Board here doubled your post. Something for nothing, I guess :)

Now to the encoding. I suspect you might be having some codec problems. Can you confirm please that you started out with that movie clip as an AVI file? If not, what sort of a file was your original download?

I should add that I can burn on a data disc with no problem and no lines in the screen.

Sorry, that comment has me puzzled. Can you expand and clarify it for me please?

Brendon

Movies are based on time, not file sizes.

How long is this movie? Where did you get it?

The movie is under two hours downloaded from BitComet. I previewed it after I clicked "Add New Movie" and it works fine. I click "creat disc" the "burn project" screen comes up and tells me "not enough space" and "capacity of current disc: 4706.1 Mb estimated size of project 8464 Mb" which means I can't burn. The small progress bar shows "used: 8464.9 Mb free -3764.9 Mb". When I do manage to get something encoding it has coloured vertical lines in the centre of the screen. I've checked all the help sites in the program and can't find anything to indicate what I'm doing wrong. It seems like I've somehow used up time in the program prior to trying to burn a new project. I had expected a simple process which it probably is to experienced users. Any advice will be appreciated.

Obviously not… You will have to talk to BitComet support about this.
