Wrong display format

Question

Hello,

when I try to make a Video-DVD with Toast 7.1.3 from some dv-clips in format 4:3 the result is almost a DVD in format 16:9, only sometimes 4:3 as it should be.

I selected in the setting of Toast 4:3 format. But also in automatic it is the same.

The DVD-memue is 4:3 !

What it this for a new bug. Earlier versions of Toast don´t had this error.

What can I do - any idea?

Thanks

Tom

Hello,

it doesn´t matter if it is a softwareplayer on a computer or a real DVD-player, this effekt is on every DVD-player. On a normal 4:3 TV it becomes letterbox instead of fullscreen.

I can send you an short example movie, then you can see it yourself.

I just find out that it depends on what codec I use in my mov files. Only the Apple Intermediate codes is making this problem, all others I try works okay. So it is the easiest way in the moment I do change my codec.

How can I tell the roxio people obount this bug or are they reading this discusion-group?

I will also try the dvdedit program.

Thanks a lot.

Send a private message to either John at Roxio or patatrox describing what you learned. You'll see them listed in the threads at the top of this forum.

How adept are you at learning new applications? There is a donation-ware application called MyDVDEdit that comes in handy right now. You can download it at mydvdedit.com. It lets you look inside the settings in the IFO file. What I want to know is what aspect ratio setting Toast gave those widescreen titles. If it gave them "16:9 and letterbox and pan & scan" then it is possible to just edit that to 4:3 and burn a new DVD from the edited VIDEO_TS folder. I can explain the steps if you want to look into this.

I have not previously heard of this happening. You say your 4:3 DV clips become 16:9 when making a DVD with Toast even after selecting 4:3 as the aspect ratio. I've seen times when Toast won't recognize a 16:9 source properly but never the other way around. Does these videos have the same problem whether you play it on the Mac or play it on a DVD player?
